    "4 stars because..."

    Version: NetShade 1.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
it has a great interface and it's coming along in terms of what it can do. I think it needs to step up on compatibility and start working with Mozilla. I downloaded the first version of this a couple days ago and it's alredy a lot better. I can't speak to the problems people are having because I haven't had any on my quicksilver w/ 10.3.2.

    "Doesn't work at all"

showmyip.com shows my real IP. It's an http protocol, not an https one.

The application quits after 10 mins if you're not registered. That's the lowest timed unregistered run I ever had with a shareware.

    "Nice"

This app is a cool idea. The design is nice and OS X looking, and it has a HUGE bank of proxy servers that it uses. You can go to ipchicken.com to see how it's masking your IP address (this is the best of the "whats my ip" sites because it gives you the most detailed info). I like that it is an app that you can just launch and quit because I wont install any third party stuff that messes with my system. I wish it could work with Mozilla because i need Mozilla to view some sites. But 90% of the time I am in Safari and it works fine with that. I think $25 is a little high but I paid it because I don't know of anything else that anonymizes your connection this well on the Mac.

    "no shade, no privacy"

    Summary

Turn on the netshade, and go to showmyip.com. It will show you the proxy you are connecting through _and_ your machine's IP#. So not much shade/privacy here.

    "Not bad"

I also get the incorrect error about running from a read-only volume. However, the app still works fine. I like the automatic rotation through proxies.

Some docs would be nice (e.g. in the table of proxies, what is the "security" column referring to?)

$25 is way too much to pay for this. $5-10 seems much more reasonable.

It does what it's supposed to and I am digging the flag graphics. It gave me one proxy which I couldnt get to but the others all seemed to work. And if it gives you a bad proxy you can skip it to the next one. If you want to verify that it's working try going to a page like http://www.whatismyip.com/ .
