Nero 11 Platinum is a one-stop tool shop that lets you rip, burn, back up, convert, edit, and organize all of your digital media. We think it's a solid multimedia work flow solution for casual media enthusiasts and prosumers alike. But be warned--the installation file is massive, tipping the scale at pretty close to 1GB. And installation takes quite a long time as it takes up about 2.5GB of memory. But, with 11 programs making up the powerful multimedia suite, we can see why, and we aren't complaining.

One of our biggest issues with Nero 11 is its footprint on our system, with its 11 applications and corresponding shortcuts. Not only does it take up quite a bit of memory, it's slightly overwhelming to navigate at times. Luckily, the user experience is now anchored by Nero's media management hub, Nero Kwik Media and the new MediaBrowser window, which gives you quick access to your libraries from all of the applications. Nero has obviously heard users' comments and attempted to streamline the experience. While the suite is somewhat overwhelming in size, we do appreciate that the fixes help us zip around without any issue.

As for what Nero 11 Platinum can do, the short answer is just about everything you'd expect from a multimedia suite. It's an audio, video, photo, data, and home entertainment workhorse that lets you edit MP3s, capture and edit HD video, record and playback TV, create slideshows, back up data, recover data from damaged disks, convert audio files, check your hardware specs, and design disc covers with ease. Further, it performs with impressive speed and has a relatively simple user interface that shouldn't be alienating to novice media enthusiasts.

So what's new? Well, for one thing, Nero Video now includes an Express Editing mode that gets users out of the multitrack timeline and into a comparatively simple storyboard, making it easy to quickly throw together basic projects. And with this simplicity, Nero has brought some more advanced features like picture-in-picture overlays, support for AVC Camera files, and 3D effects. While they may not be professional-level features, many of the new additions do spill over into prosumer territory, which means quite a bit more bang for your buck.

There's also LIVEBackup, which provides automatic and continuous back up security with a single click. And now, with Kwik Media joining the suite, users can even create and order nifty photobooks right through the application. While Kwik Media does provide a convenient hub to manage all your media, one thing we're not so sure about is the integrated Market. While in-app purchases of new features might make sense in theory, we aren't confident it's going to catch on.

Nero has also gone to great lengths to improve file-conversion and sharing capabilities. With the much-improved Nero Recode, it's easier than ever to convert media between virtually any file formats and to output to virtually any device. There are also built-in tools for sharing to YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, and for burning high-quality Blu-ray and DVD discs. What's more, you can even sync your media between your PC and Android via Wi-Fi or USB. Considering the increasing importance of mobility these days, these improvements are arriving just in time.

From what we've seen so far, Nero 11 Platinum appears to be a winner. Sure, it's huge, and takes quite a bit of time to install, but with its 11 applications, it packs some huge features on top of the bread-and-butter functionality that made Nero 10 such a popular download. Plus, it comes completely reconstructed for improved performance and a more streamlined user interface.

"Poorly integrated & buggy"

February 21, 2011  |  By thedancingman

 |  Version: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 10.0.132

Pros

IF you can get it to work, not a bad product but that's a big IF. Multi-track video recording

Cons

It's a bunch of lproducts "integrated" by a glossy entry point. It's buggy and corrupts its own project files AND it's it corrupts registry settings so that iTunes throws an error. Not a good product.

Summary

I echo the warnings given my MarkMe300. Nero customer service will not reimburse you regardless of the product being buggy to the point of incessant failure.

I was extremely disappointed with the performance of the software. I purchased it to complete a video project on a tight deadline. I was not able to complete more than 25% of the project because of serious bugs in the software that corrupted five (5) of six (6) project files. The only file that remained useable had the pictures rearranged from the set order. The corrupt files would open in timeline but it was obvious that many media files, narrative and text files had been lost. As soon as I tried to change to storyboard the product failed with a message and the product closed down with no recourse.

Recording narrative was also a poor quality process while in storyboard. The recording started clear and gradually developed a severe hum that increased in crescendo. I could however record successfully and clearly, with no distortion using the Nero standalone recorder but this defeated any notion of tight integration.

The 3rd problem is that the registry was corrupted causing iTunes to throw an error on startup after installing Nero 10. I reinstalled iTunes to no avail. From research it appears that my only remedy requires edits to my PC register, of which I am unqualified to do, therefore will require a service technician. That alone will cost approximately $70.00. Beyond preliminary research I am not sure what extent the damage is.

The 4th problem is that Quicktime files were also corrupted. I believe Quicktime fixed the problem itself but I have not verified this yet.

I removed Nero from my PC, installed Cyberlink PowerDirector 9 and completed my project a just hours before my deadline. This is a strong endorsement of PowerDirector though. I completed the installation on Monday evening and completed the project on time without knowing the product.

"A100% Pure Garbage"

July 21, 2010  |  By Schmeddy

 |  Version: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 10.0.132

Pros

It was nice to try before wasting money in it

Cons

The video editing part does not work. Very slow. The hardest to use from all the versions out.

Summary

This was the biggest waste of money. I tested in mulltple viirgin machines. On the XP system (with all services packs) it did not install. On the Vista machine ran so slow that it was unusable. When I try to edit a movie by having the movie with no sound and adding another sound track to it. The sound track never went in. Try several times, nothing. Try to exported nothing. It plays on the computer fine. It just won't record. Avoid the this siute it does not worth anything. If you get a free (Essentials) version just burn DVDs with it and that is it. The rest of the stuff delete it as it is garbage.

"More of the same"

June 28, 2010  |  By P_F_M

 |  Version: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 10.0.132

Pros

Installs faster than the last few releases.

Cons

Nero is synonymous with bloatware. The software seems to have issues with simple tasks like burning a CD. Although the same tracks burn fine using another application, Nero has produced a number of coasters.

Summary

Gone are the days when Nero produced simple, easy to use software that worked without issue. They seem to ignore user complaints and then produce a new and improved version with the unspoken promise that everything works perfectly. Find an alternative.

"it works with xp 32 but not xp64"

June 17, 2010  |  By laago

 |  Version: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 10.0.132

Pros

there really is nothing

Cons

Downloaded on xp64, updated all known drivers etc & still it asks for latest Windows extractor etc.
not a full video editor, seems to be orientated to Windows filters & codecs.

Summary

I have used 5 different movie editors, none perfect but all better than this.
Not a well designed interface, when working on a film it only shows the first few frames so difficult to edit.

"nothing new"

June 05, 2010  |  By Salamipoo

 |  Version: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 10.0.132

Pros

The fact it burns dvd pretty well and does the job ok

Cons

Nothing really new with this version.
It took me more than half an hour to download this software, It uses alot of system resource just to burn a simple dvd.

Converting videos to another format is slow.

Summary

I wouldn't buy this software. It shows no improvement from previous version. It's more bloated. Take ages to install. Uses alot of system resource.
