Nero 8 Ultra delivers a refurbished digital media suite that's still as comprehensive as they come, though now in a more polished wrapper. The installation file is massive; also, once Nero is on your machine, it consumes a hefty serving of memory. Considering all it can do, though, we can only complain so much.
CD- and DVD-burning is still Nero's core; welcome shortcuts for burning and ripping CDs and DVDs are now accessible from the new StartSmart GUI, which is now adorned with a programmable RSS reader. Authoring and burning high-definition CDs and DVDs are added features, and so is the ability to export video files made and edited with Nero to YouTube, MySpace, and MyNero.
Nero 8 Ultra introduces RescueAgent, a tool to recover data from damaged disks, and a gaggle of Vista features, including a one-click desktop gadget for copying CDs.
Despite the cosmetic alterations, Vista support, and enhancements, particularly to Nero Vision, the dramatic changes are slim. However, Nero Ultra 8's significantly faster application launch time and improved usability make the audio, video, photo, data, and home entertainment workhorse that lets you edit MP3s, capture and edit video, record and playback TV, create slide shows, back up data, convert audio files, check your hardware specs, and design disc covers with ease well worth a try.

Version: Nero 8 Ultra Edition 8.3.2.1b
Pros: One click burning
Cons: Maybe I was used to 7, but the "streamlining" of 8 has actually made it harder to configure. More bloat added. I have tested several free burning programs that seem to work just as well without all the bloat. I think Nero has had its day.

Version: Nero 8 Ultra Edition 8.3.2.1b
Pros: It does the job, friendly UI.
Cons: Why pay 80 bucks when you can just download free apps that do the same job fore free?
And what's up with the extra features? ANOTHER MEDIA CENTER? I just wanted a CD/DVD burning app!
Some of the features are fine, HEY, it is nero after all, but why do I need a media indexer? I just can't believe that BurnAware's 20 mb can do the same job quicker (MY GOD NERO APPS TAKE TIME TO LOAD!) compared to nero's 1.50GB....
I'm sticking with light n' free alternatives....

Version: Nero 8 Ultra Edition 8.3.2.1b
Pros: Good 'front window'. Useful extras over Nero 7. Careful if you want to download update, it damaged my installation (twice)
Cons: As it stands it's quite a good improvement over 7. Downloading the update (twice) wrecked the installation - had to reinstall Nero 8. Be careful if you are tempted to update.

Version: Nero 8 Ultra Edition 8.3.2.1b
Pros: this is all you need for all your media related stuff you like to do on your pc. Although I don't have any need for a product like this anymore (i don't mess around with mp3 etc. anymore) I fully recommend this software for people who need to edit mp3's, video, etc. It gets the job done! And the price is very reasonable for all the stuff you can do.
Cons: none
