Though primarily known for its CD- and DVD-burning prowess, the newest version of Nero Ultra proves to be a full-fledged media workhorse. The installation file is big and takes awhile to load; also, once Nero is on your machine, it consumes a hefty serving of memory. Considering all it can do, though, we can only complain so much.
The attractive StartSmart GUI opens a clear path for both beginners and advanced users to every aspect of the software suite. The burning options are as comprehensive as they come, whether you're working with photos, data, music, or video. Other features let you erase discs; convert audio files; capture video; edit photos; make backups; check your hardware specs; and create slide shows, custom audio mixes, and disc covers. Version 7 takes things one step further with Media Center-like features that allow you to watch and record TV, as well as manage your entire collection of media.
We would like a 30-day trial rather than having the demo expire at the end of the month, but if you time it right, you should be able to get plenty of use out of it. Anybody who uses their computer for entertainment purposes will find Nero Ultra 7 well worth its price tag.

Version: Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced 7.10.1
Pros: I tried this program on Vista and was very happy with. When I tried previous versions on my xp machines i didnt like it much because it would crash a lot and left a lot to be desired after you make an mp3 cd, but on Vista it runs great. It's easy with a ton of tools.
Cons: You have to go to their website and download help files.

"I have used it for a long time."
Pros: But, I'm careful as to how and what features I allow it to install. To me it's the only disk burning software I trust. "Ashampoo" in both version 6 and 7 does a terrible job erasing RW disks. "Nero" does a great job. It has to many features really so I only use it as a disk burner. I just uncheck the other modules during install or you can do a custom install. Look, it's expensive and if I didn't already own a copy, I'd probably look for another option but the version I purchased over a year ago still activates the updated releases. Thats correct, the same key still works. It burns with "buffer under run protection" and makes great CD's, DVD's and data disks. The issues others have described, I have not experienced.
Cons: It's to big, uses a lot of recourses and has to many modules and it's expensive. But as long as my activation code works, I will use it.

Version: Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced 7.10.1
Pros: Lots of features. I am waiting for a Stable release.
Cons: What can any one do with the features if it keeps crashing all the time. Earlier versions used to crash when i tried to open .avi files. This does not crash, but it just wont start. I have no idea whats happening. The Nero 6 i got with the Writer works a lot better than this one.

Version: Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced 7.10.1
"Pretty good, still too slow for fast burners like myself"
Pros: I only use the Burning Rom so I can not speak of the other parts of the suite, it does what it was designed to do, burn discs.
Cons: still too slow for serious burners, and scans the bus every time, is this necessary to just start up the application/compilation? This can take minutes away from your life waiting on this program. Nero is too slow, period. And god forbid, if my drive or disc produces a Power Callibration Error, you can be sitting there for 5 minutes waiting on something, until it unlocks and goes back to your compilation.
