Publisher's description of Nero 6 Ultra Edition 6.6.0.16
From Nero:Nero 6 Ultra Edition is an all-in-one solution for data, audio, video, photo, and backup. Nero has combined its best applications (over 16 applications included in the Suite) to satisfy all your digital-media needs, making the applications accessible through Nero StartSmart, the command center for all tasks. Now you can capture, edit, author, and burn your photos and home videos without buying different software packages. Nero Recode 2, ultra fast transcoder, allows you to recode DVDs and videos to Nero Digital format providing top-quality audio and video for your home theater.
You can backup non-copyrighted DVDs without any visible loss of quality by converting DVDs to Nero Digital files, and fit an entire movie on one CD, including 5.1 Dolby surround sound. You can then playback your media files with Nero ShowTime or share with Nero MediaHome server with H.264/AVC support, the new standard in high definition support.

- "Beyond basic burning"
- Version reviewed: Nero 6 Ultra Edition 6.6.0.16
You can find plenty of programs to handle your CD- and DVD-burning tasks, but few have as many features and cover as many aspects as Nero. Beyond burning CDs and DVDs, you can back up your computer, create artwork for your CD and DVD cases, make complex mixes with Nero's built-in mixing software, and even check your hardware specs to make sure everything is up to speed. We like the comprehensive coverage of all things that have to do with burning, making it possible to avoid juggling several programs to make a single CD. We're also fans of the Nero PhotoShow Express module, which lets you manage your digital-image collection and create custom slide shows. One of Nero's greatest features is its MPEG-4 encoder for copying noncopyrighted DVD movies to CD-R/RW and several other media formats.
We were skeptical of the fact that Nero might be trying to stuff too much into its software, but the StartSmart GUI opens a clear path for both beginners and advanced users to every aspect of the software suite. We would like a 30-day trial rather than having the demo expire at the end of the month, which gave us only four days from our installation. Overall, this great suite of programs covers all your CD- and DVD-burning needs, and we recommend it to anyone with a writable drive.

Version: Nero 6 Ultra Edition 6.6.0.16
Pros: Consistently the best software for burning just about anything. Coupled with so many other features like DVD authoring, file conversion, audio mixing and tweaking, labelling software, etc, etc this is also the most reliable burning software you can get. Regular updates clear out any minor bugs.
Cons: The startsmart can be a bit annoying to more experienced users.

Version: Nero 6 Ultra Edition 6.6.0.16
Pros: Nero Burning ROM is the best all-in-one CDR/DVDR application I have ever seen.
Nero combines a lot of features in a compact and easy to use package. It handles disc duplicating and pre-mastering with comfort, supported by a cover designer and even an audio file editor. The excellent GUI design keeps all the functions handy and guarantees that all the tasks can be done quickly.
If anybody asks what CD/DVD burning software I prefer? - My answer is - Nero.

Version: Nero 6 Ultra Edition 6.6.0.16
Pros: Simple but functional (and customizable) start up screen with every option available in a couple of clicks. All operations have their own button to get you into the right application for what you want to do. Still burns to the best of your drive's speed, very good at avoiding burning errors and creating solid, working discs. Also aesthetically pleasing, not hugely memory consuming (though best not to run it with any other big application). Nicely stepped up and satisfyingly optimized from version 5.
Cons: Still a little buggy and flawed with unpredictable errors / freezing / closing down. Sometimes the wizards can be annoying hen you know what you want to do and they bombard you with options and questions. Cannot seem to stop it from creating a new program group when I start up after customizing and moving it's shortcuts around in my start menu. As I say, occasionally a bit of a memory consumer (when not even burning or using cd/dvd drives) which can be frustrating.
