Nero 2015 Platinum is the latest iteration of one of the best-known media and disc-burning suites for Windows. Music, video, data, and slideshows: Nero burns them all, Blu-ray included. It also plays discs and media files, converts video and audio, creates slideshows and photo albums, and streams media to your TV and other devices on your home media network.
Welcome: Nero 2015 Platinum's full-screen Welcome page provides quick access to main functions like Manage and Play or Rip and Burn, but it also centralizes everything you need, including Tutorials, Tools & Settings, and Your Product, which opens the Nero ControlCenter for managing serial numbers, updates, and other important product information.
Burning: Disc burning is one of Nero's core competencies. Nero Video, Nero Express, Nero Burning ROM, and several other bundled tools work together to create and burn CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs, as well as store data and backups on rewritable discs (plus 5GB of included free online storage). No "drink coasters," either: We burned a multi-chapter DVD on our very first attempt.
Play: Nero Blu-ray Player plays Blu-ray movies and other discs on your PC or on your TV. Nero MediaHome not only streams movies and music as part of your home media network but also includes nifty extras like Timelines and Face Recognition.
Big: Nero 2015 Platinum does so much that it can be a bit overwhelming at first. Don't get us wrong: Nero is as easy to use (or easier) than other media solutions of its size and capability, which take time to master. For some jobs, basic freeware might be enough.
Integrated, all-in-one media solutions tend to be large and complex, but Nero 2015 Platinum proved surprisingly easy to use without giving up on the features and extras that set it apart from lesser tools.
Editors' note: This is a review of the full version of Nero 2015 Platinum. The trial version is limited to 15 days with some features disabled.

Will not rip commercial DVDs for backup purposes. If purchased from Nero.com you'll have a hard time getting a refund. Seems to be overly complicated and difficult to navigate.
My wife and I have 600+ DVDs and we want to be able to take our collection with us when we travel in our RV. Solution - Portable NAS system with media server. I purchased 2 copies of NERO Platinum 2015 so my wife and I could begin the arduous process of backing up our collection only to find out that NERO does not support ripping commercial DVDs. I have to think "whats the point of advertising ripping DVDs and Blu-ray disks?" If it can only rip non-commercial DVDs what's the point of even including or promoting that feature?
I've run into this type of incompatibility with other software companies and I've never had an issue getting a refund. Not Nero. They say that I should have downloaded the trial software first. So I've given them one final chance to do the right thing before opening a dispute with my credit card company.
Hopefully this note will prevent others finding themselves in the same place I am right now.
I think I know what product may meet your needs. Try the trial version of DVDFAB 9 or higher version. The trial lets you try it out for either a limited number of uses or certain period of time, and if you like it you can purchase it. It is a small program that doesn't cost much and works great for backing up movies.
If you use the Trial Version U can Upgrade for $29.99 to Full Version! When you sign on theirs an option to upgrade for $54 bucks. I didn't do that but when I tried to use a feature not in the trial version, it gave me an option to upgrade for $29.99. I thought it was a mistake or something, but it wasn't. You get a Blue ray DVD Player in it, with the Media Center, Burning Rom, and Nero Video for editing Videos which is the easy and best way to edit videos. you also get a video converter. This has everything you need. I paid 34 bucks for my DVD software alone Power DVD, I'm going to send it back I don't need it anymore!
It lets you edit video in the free version, but only allows you to output a 30 second clip. Lucy it lets you save your work, it doesn't tell you until you try to export the video at the end! I was pissed but saved my hours of work and was able to open and export when I brought it for $29.99
If you looking to buy an advance video editor its worth the cost alone to upgrade from this free trial at $29.99, but with the DVD Blueray player and burning software, and all the other software it comes with, most of which don't function in this free trial, this trial is a God send, you don't have to pay the $129.99 asking price, if you use it!

Beware trial version now includes open candy! You have to use it and put your software key in it if your buy it! I had to reinstall program, but now the trial version has open candy in it, lucky I found a copy of original trial version on backup disk to use instead!
I uninstalled it so it is no longer polluting my system! And NEVER will again!
Nero 15 Platinum is absolute garbage! I went back to using my 2009 VERSION of DVDFab to burn and watch DVD's and Windows Media Player to burn and listen to music! Nero must have had focus groups to decide how much can they screw up their easy to use software, make it so it no longer auto-opens anything (namely .vob files for me), and always leads to a ridiculous opening menu that you have to memorize what the programs do because there is no description or the descriptions are so similar - you just have to cross your fingers and click one and it will likely be the wrong one (wasted too much time clicking around). I would reinstall my pirated version of Nero 9 as even that works so much better, but I uninstalled EVERYTHING Nero related and even deleted the emails because I don't want this garbage polluting my system! Sad when 2009 software outperforms Nero 2015 Platinum... Anyone who buys this is a fool, including me - consider yourself warned, I wish someone would have warned me!
In case you missed it: Nero 15 Platinum = GARBAGE! Without a doubt the WORST software I have ever purchased!
Sounds like you don't know your way around Windows very well. (Or you are a fairly lazy shill for a Nero competitor.) You complain that Nero 2015 doesn't "auto-open" files for you, like .VOBs. You probably don't even know how easy it is to remedy that in Control Panel > Default Programs. You have trouble understanding which programs in the suite do what, and it frustrates you because you have to "memorize" the names Nero gives to their programs. Oh my, it may be worse than simply being a newb if you cannot figure out the names of Nero's programs. And as if to provide further evidence of your lack of qualification to review software products, you declare Nero to be "the WORST software I have ever purchased!" (Then you uninstall Nero 9 for good measure, even though it was working fine for you.) And this is the WORST SOFTWARE EVAR because you have difficulty recalling the names of Nero apps, and you don't understand how to set up your Default Programs -- basic, rudimentary stuff.
Excellent propaganda, full rich claims, lovely pictures of their software. Endless claims of "how easy" and "so powerful".
Their tutorials are useless. They never give you any idea of what the software components actually do, just some "details" as though you were born with an intimate knowledge of their software. They use jargon as thought it were English. For example, what does "Recode" mean? You will never be told by any explanation. Which would be okay if you could tell from opening the software and understanding the plan. No matter what video extension I gave it, it just rejected the video without explanation. And somehow all they seem to be focused on is burning DVD's;. If you want to do anything else, forget it Don't even dream about converting and then saving to your hard drive. Yes, you can save to some smartphone or tablet or DVD but not to a file. They have you and your needs all figured out but you had better go along with their plan for you or you are out of luck. Maybe, just maybe, if you are constantly burning DVD's, this software might help.
I made a mistake. I am trying to reverse the purchase. There is freeware and shareware that does it all better and cheaper than Nero. AVS does some of it without all the hype.
Unethical business practices takes away from a product that has a spotty history throughout versions. Finally now with the rollout of 2014 the breach of contract in my opinion renders this product unworthy of any money.
I used free versions since before 2000. in the mid 2000's I bought Nero 6 Ultra (the what is now Platinum everything edition). It worked well with occasional glitches that were addressed by updates. Then 7 came out so I "upgraded" to that and never a poorer program have I owned. I removed it and ran 6 since then and ate the loss of $$. I figured after many years they ironed things out so I bought from scratch Nero 10 Platinum with all the "theme packs" and everything. I upgraded to 12 Platinum when it came out and then they released a pack for Vision called Vision Xtra. It was dl as part of Platinum as it came with Platinum. It CAME WITH PLATINUM TO PLATINUM BUYERS AS PART OF PLATINUM THAT I BOUGHT. BOUGHT. Now that 2014 came out my last "update" rendered Vision Xtra no longer operable with the themes with a message "expired". Vision Xtra was NOT a "subscription service" I BOUGHT it as PART of PLATINUM which was a MAIN reason I PAID the xtra $$ for Vison Xtra! They want to make it a pay extra now that comes with Platinum 2014 as part of it. But if I want mine to work I HAVE TO "upgrade" to 2014!?? You see the update disabled functionality of xtra in Nero 12 after the fact of the money I SPENT TO BUY IT. I called tech support and it says pay over a $1.00 a minute and no guarantees of success and can we have your credit card number to connect the call? SAY WHAT? So this is what you pay a sawbuck for. NERO attitude now apparently is shaddup and give us your money. There are NO telephone numbers for and contacting of Nero save the one that tries to soak you for as much $$ as a pay for sex call service! So buy Nero at your OWN risk people!
Takes forever to install, it's only good for 14 days, and if you want to burn a dvd greater than 100mb you're out of luck, because it won't burn over 100mb with the trial version.
Taking about 30 minutes to install just to find out it won't let me burn the ISO I wanted because it's over 100mb was bad enough but it took another 30 minutes to un-install it and the ad-ware it installed as part of the process. Nero used to stand for quality software but if this trial is any indication, I'd rather go with a "free" alternative.
