"Very happy with NeoOffice."
Version: NeoOffice 3.0.2 Patch 1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am glad to not have Microsoft Office on my computer- legally or otherwise. I am extra happy to have OpenOffice.org and NeoOffice also as very capable options- and FREE!? FREE!
NeoOffice has been handling my share of writing and presentation necessities for awhile now as well as those of family members whom have to do school work and research. NeoOffice has easily been my choice over OpenOffice.org simply for the integrated support of LTR (Left To Right) languages on OS X. If this is were not a concern of mine I'd probably stick with OpenOffice.org ("OOo") just to have the latest version, but from time to time I open a document in a foreign language and NeoOffice displays the type correctly whereas OOo does not. Such examples are, most notably; Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, etc. where the characters in most cases display/connect differently depending on whether located in the beginning, middle or end of a word. OOo displays the characters as standalone characters, akin to the Latin alphabet, rendering such documents useless for reading or reproduction.
Anyway. NeoOffice is free, integrates with OS X better, and is an entire Office program... and free! =) Oh is it 64-bit? Who cares. -
"better integrated than regular OpenOffice"
Version: NeoOffice 3.0.2
Pros
I think it works better on the Mac than regular Open Office. It looks better and performs better. And after all it is OO on the inside, but better.
Cons
It can take a little while for OO updates to appear in NeoOffice, but I'm not in a hurry.
Summary
It has all the functions and features of OpenOffice (since it's built on OO) with better UI and performance.

"The best free office suit for Mac"
Version: NeoOffice 3.0.2
Pros
They have taken OpenOffice.org and tailer made it for the Mac, such as taken away unrelated Windows code which has resulted in many speed improvements, and is very stable. And it has the same compatibility with MS Office as OpenOffice.org does.
Cons
The look and feel isn't as good as iWork 09 or MS Office (but it's not too bad)
And their are some slight compatibility issues with MS Office Documents, (like OpenOffice.org)Summary
When it comes to free Office suits for Mac this is the best, because it takes the code from the Mac version of OpenOffice.org and optimises it for the Mac platform as well as adding Mac specific features like Native highlighting etc. The only reason why you wouldn't use this suit is if you are a real MS Office power user.

"Neo Office is Great...but mine is up to date!"
Version: NeoOffice 3.0.1 patch 3
Pros
Full featured editor/spreadsheet/ drawing/presentation software.
Cons
CNET keeps telling me my system is out of date, but I'm on the correct version. Perhaps the software isn't telling CNET what it's version is.
Summary
I find the product as robust as Microsoft Office for the functions I require. It's easy to use and powerful.

"Compatible Office Suite, easy interoperability"
Version: NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 7
Pros
Although I've only had a few days, software does exactly what is advertised with intuitive, compatible interfaces and functions for MS Office.
Cons
Doesn't include Outlook; Slight formatting adjustments may be needed for full MS equivalent rendering.

"Intel NeoOffice 3.0 thumbs up vs. OOo 3.1"
Version: NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've always been wary of NeoOffice on a purely emotional level - lots of bad vibes re: their splinter from OOo but push has come to shove now and it's bad news for OOo. 3.0-3.1 was their big splash Mac native version, but it doesn't behave well for me... when dealing with even the smallest of graphics in documents (tracers when moving an image, a delay in image rendering from the time you release the mouse button until the image appears in its new position, makes precision difficult). It opens slower than NeoOffice. I get too many beach balls (even if OOo is the only app open and the first one loaded right after start up, so not a memory or CPU issue on my computer).
NeoOffice doesn't have any of those issues.
Yeah document format exchangeability is still buggy, in both Neo and OOo, but that's actually now Microsoft's fault - they (seemingly) purposely withheld the appropriate specifications to allow interoperability seamlessly after agreeing to a standard to use, using the excuse that the standard everyone agreed to was not well defined. But M$ only brought that up AFTER the fact when it was too late to fix, when they supposedly knew about it during development. -
"Not Quite There in Document Exchangeability"
Version: NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 3
Summary

Finally decided to remove from my system for now. The last simple document I prepared for my team, all Windows users, was rife with format issues in tables that hid data from view. I had to continually open the document in MS Word just to ensure fonts and formats. Finally finished the edit in Word. If that's what you have to do, what's the point?
BTW, I found that Pages was much better at exporting to Word providing consistent results.
Spreadsheet is another area. My company uses scripting extensively. Keep getting runtime errors when loading company spreadsheets.
Neo is not a bad effort, just not ready yet in my view to use as an outright replacement for Office where everybody (almost) is using it.

I needed a solution to replace my older Office Suite and decided to give NeoOffice a try: This product is just excellent, with a nice concept, is fully compatible with all MS.Office files and is stable and ... cheap! Highly recommended.
