Version: Napster 3.7.3.3
Pros: Less chance of contracting malicious software than pre-metallica version.
Cons: I recently tried the "free" demo of napster (which requires a credt card, and i need to cancel explicitly to keep from being charged). My impression was that napster was based on a subscription fee rather than a per-track payment, like iTunes. This is not true if you want to burn a cd or load an iPod. In those cases, they charge 99 cents per track (on top of the subscription cost of $10/month, higher if you use an iPod). Also, after buying a track, you can't save the file to your machine directly.
The burning software is limited also. It will let you burn an audio cd, but not an mp3 cd, and it will automatically finalize your cd. This is particularly annoying if you want to save mp3 files.
Besides that, the interface for managing playlists is counterintuitive and difficult to use, especially in regards to saving playlists. There are other minor things that give the impression that the software wasn't designed with the user in mind. For example, when searching for music, napster won't let you resize the results window because an ad takes precidence.
Altogether, napster is lacking in selection, capability, and interface compared to similar software, and costs more. I don't recommend it.

Version: Napster 3.7.3.3
Pros: Looks good from 50 meters away.
Cons: I've been a subscribed member for several months, decided to play through all my music in one big playlist on shuffle..
Guess what? Napster lost contracts with some artists on some albums and a very annoying "Sorry this track is not available from Napster at this time." message appears. Wow. I downloaded it, its on my PC, but I cannot play it because they suck.
Long story short, you could download 1,000 songs, and 2 months later maybe 300 will no longer play.
You rent the music, stop paying? Bye bye music.
You still have to pay $1 per song to burn.
Complete waste of my time, money, and HDD space.

"Bought those songs and played them...for awhile. Stupid Napster."
Pros: The name. Everyone knows Napster. For now anyway. Give it time and this new Napster will drive itself into obscurity.
Cons: I've read about users of Napster that changed computers and then couldn't play their purchased songs. Well, I didn't even change computers. They just quit playing. I had 6 downloads left to my account so I tried to download some more songs. They won't play at all. Not even once did they work on my computer. I also get the " License Acquisition Project page to upgrade to Premium " window. Stupid Napster. SAVE YOUR MONEY! I spent 3 hours on the phone (during peak hours) only for the customer support guy to give up and tell me he will have a technician call me within 24 hours. Arghh!
