"Buyer Beware: A Waste of Money"

    October 19, 2011  |   By FargoUT

    Pros

Encrypts data, can be useful to begin constructing your own personal collection of private data

    Cons

Horribly inefficient interface that is unintuitive, complicated, and poorly designed (seems to be little more than a simplistic .NET program), unable to add custom groups, $30 is far too pricey for this (I got it for $10 and still feel it was overpriced)

    Summary

A program I have called "KeePass" does everything this program does, but for free, and it is far more usable from a GUI standpoint. The inability to create custom groups is a huge hindrance, and the lousy Data Grid view is about as inefficient as you can get when entering data. This piece of software seems to be the work of a lone programmer looking to make a quick buck. No thought seems to have been put into creating a usable workspace, and the limitation to specific fields makes for a very unfriendly program.

Honestly, I created an Access database backend with a frontend user interface that works better than this program does. I was hoping for more from a program I paid for, but I guess $10 isn't terribly bad. Still feels cheap, and users should beware of this software which is archaic, outdated and poorly coded.

I agree with your view that custom groups for passwords would be a good idea if someone has more than say 15 passwords to remember and hence you cannot see all your passwords on one page. We are looking at adding this feature in our next release.

Our customers advise that the price for our product is fair value. You mentioned that you created an access database with a front end user interface which I presume was to manage only passwords? I am sure this took you many hours and if you put value on your time then this would have cost you probably several thousands of dollars, not the $29.95 for significantly more function. Also not everyone can write programmes so it is not an option for most people.

I encourage CNET customers to download the software and have a look for themselves.

    Look forward to more feedback.

    Hi FargoUT,

I do not think your post is very helpful to other people.

Firstly, thanks for purchasing our software. But from reading your post I do not think you have had a really good look at the software. It is way more than just a password manager.

It is also able to help you keep track of your finances, your health, your assets, your important documents, reminders and much more. Also there are two ways of viewing records and the user can choose between the Table view that many people do like and a card view.

From your post I could infer that you are associated with KeyPass? Also you seem to be a fan of Open source.

I have had a look at KeyPass and I am afraid it does not do all that myINFOSAFE does, but agree if you are just looking for a password manager alone then it could be a good option.
