"Store clips longterm, paste them with a few keystrokes."

    November 2, 2009  |   By robert_baker

    Version: MultiClipBoard 4.0.0

    Pros

Easy to use, preserves text formatting, works with pix, and offers overwrite protection.

    Cons

No complaints, exactly what I wanted.

    Summary

Many multi-clipboards create a list of clips as you cut/copy. Since they only hold so many clips, old items are bumped off the list as new items are added. This means that if you have a particular clip you use repeatedly, it will be moving down the list as you cut/copy. The problem with that is you need to search for the clip when you need it, and also recopy it to the top before it gets bumped. THIS MULTICLIPBOARD IS NOT LIKE THAT!
I'm tired of typing my email address. Now all I do is press Ctrl+3 to activate the clipboard where it is stored, then Ctrl+V to paste it. It works even when the mulitclipboard is minimized in the system tray. And because I have that clipboard set to be write protected - I will never overwrite it accidently. Nice.
How to Use It: Double click the icon in the tray to bring the window up. Set the number at the top for how many clipboards you want. If more than three, they won't appear all at once, but will as you fill. Below are two buttons, an X to clear a clipboard and an arrow to Undo. Next is a red number, this will set how many of your clipboards will be protected from overwriting. Obviously you need to set this to 0, then fill your clipboards, then set the number.
The list of clipboards takes the majority of the window (you can adjust the window size or use the scroll bar). The clip slots are numbered and there is a little icon next to each. To activate a clipboard for filling or pasting either click the icon or use the hotkey combination (Ctrl+1-0 for the first ten, Ctrl+Shift+1-0 for clipboards 11-20). This means if you click on a clipboard and cut ten items, the first nine items will be overwritten and only the last cut will be saved in the slot. If you want to save all ten clips, you will need to assign a slot to each (by clicking the icons or using hot keys). If you have toggled a write protected clip for pasting, and then cut/copy something else, it will be saved in your regular clipboard that is still running behind the scenes. Clicking the X at the top right of the window will minimize it to the system tray.
