    "restore files garbage"

    September 25, 2011  |   By r2frame

    Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 2.0

    Pros

backed up 30 gb of files over a years use

    Cons

drive crashed and when I got finally, after weeks of trying, got back up disks they contained 99% garbage. So I was able to restore, with difficulty, less than 1 gb.....totally a waste of time and money

    Summary

subsequently tried Carbonite but found their back speed was so slow that the initial backup was still not complete after 3 weeks with a high speed cable service.

Will go back to using local backup drive

"easy in principle, but NOT user-friendly in practice"

    June 14, 2011  |   By dbcommerce

    Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 2.0

    Pros

Backups can be scheduled to occur automatically. You can see a directory of your backed-up computer online, and choose which (or all) files to restore.

    Cons

Very, VERY slow . Hard to get support. Every process fails - the back up and the restore - taking several tries before completing correctly. You need to download at least 2 different programs to both backup and restore your files.

    Summary

Bottom line - Shop around and find a different program or service. I'm thinking of going back to a hard drive (this just isn't worth the effort or expense!) and cancelling the service and forfeiting the $150 or so I paid them.

The details - The automatic backups fail all the time, so they're not really automatic. Though you can see the directory of your backed-up computer (sort of, with little detail), restoring them NEVER works on the first try. Also, the different Mozy programs (there are 2 or 3) you have to download on your computer for this stupid system to work is confusing. Support is not the most accessible, so you waste lots of hours trying to figure it out and solve your problem. And all this hassle causes delay, so you can't really restore a file when you want it -- it takes a few hours a day for several days, and you finally get your file(s) a week later.

    "Very Very Dissapointed"

    May 12, 2011  |   By jonjra

    Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 2.0

    Pros

I thought it was quick and easy, UNTIL I had to restore

    Cons

I Honestly dont know where to begin! I went to restore a computer that crashed, after putting in a new drive and reloading windows, Wow, good luck with that.

    Summary

Computer drive failure, put in a new drive, reloaded windows, downloaded mozy client and said to restore, they ask to log in, I tried a few different combos of usernames and passwords, did not work, the client had no forgot password feature. I go to Mozy.com there they have a forgot password option, so I use it and they send me my password, I try to log in, only to be locked out because to many attempts from before, there is no one at mozy to call, no tech support, so then after a while I was able to get in and started to do a restore, I come back after a couple hours and they have a backup complete message and my restore stopped saying I needed an encryption key to continue, which I have no freaking idea what there talking about, all I know is without my backup, I am dead in the water, then the mozy software locks up, I restart and no I manually configure to suspend backups, and here now 2 days later go and look for my email files to restore and it looks like there only showing the backup they made while it was restoring, so it wrote over my full backup with the backup there software started WHILE IT WAS RESTORING. I have been paying for this for a couple years and have been recommending to my clients, wow was a screwed.

"Stopped working & erased backed-up files from server"

    May 6, 2011  |   By noahjefron

    Version: MozyHome Remote Backup 2.0

    Pros

    None that I can see.

    Cons

    Non-existent tech support
Increased rates without giving me a chance to opt out
Erased 25 or so GB of backed-up files mistakenly
Did not respond to my requests to cancel; continued to take $10 a month for six months without providing promised service

    Summary

An on-line back-up service that deletes back-ups that took a month to upload, and then doesn't reply to six urgent requests for help, is one that is best avoided. There are good options out there - Mozy is not one of them.

    Cons

free space of 2 GB is not proper for free accounts. It should be atleast 10 GB in other words it should be more than IDRIVE

    Summary

free space of 2 GB is not proper for free accounts. It should be atleast 10 GB in other words it should be more than IDRIVE. Only for this alone reason I have decreased two stars
