"Improved it, until it no longer worked!"

    October 30, 2013  |   By eatdrumz

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 24.0

    Pros

    Great interface
    Easy to use filters
    Spam filter
    Address book is great

    Cons

    Freezes, (Thunderbird is Not Responding)
    Cannot receive mail
    Now sending mail, is 50/50

    Summary

Mozilla, can't leave a good thing alone. I've used Thunderbird, since Eudora went belly up. That's a long time!!
They've "Improved," Thunderbird to where it is no longer usable. If freezes, crashes, takes forever while acting like it's getting your mail...than crashes.
They took the Best e mail client for windows, and made a software boat anchor out of it.
I'm trying to find a replacement, but it really isn't easy.

Mozilla, please just leave Firefox, and Thunderbird alone!!!!

    "Needed New Mail Program"

    October 9, 2013  |   By TraciiR

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 24.0

    Pros

You can customize it to what you like and are used to. Colours are simple & easy to read with easy adjustments. Set up was an easy migration. Drag & drop is an awesome feature.

    Cons

Stops down loading for no apparent reason. Hard to find the correct answers for fix on line.(But then it starts working again and don't know why?)Sometimes I can't move a file by dragging and again it starts working?? Some bugs that a non techie will have issues with.

    Summary

I was using OE and it stopped functioning properly. I tried 2 other programs before installing Thunderbird. I am quite happy with the results & look so far. If you were using Outlook Express, I'd recommend this program to replace it.

    "Used Thunderbird for several years"

    September 17, 2013  |   By mjnelson99

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.8

    Pros

I have used Thunderbird for a number of years. Mostly, it just worked, with multiple email addresses, too.!!!

Do remember to use Compact before creating backups.

If you haven't discovered Mozbackup, get it now. Can be invaluable for backup & restores. I usually backup nightly.

Just downloaded beta 3 of TB 24. Can hardly wait to test it out.

    Cons

I did have problems displaying html images in messages at one point. This was about TB 17.5 or so. Not sure now. I had also installed IE 10 into Win 7 X64, Home Premium. Not sure if it was TB itself or IE 10.

I went back to TB 17.3 and uninstalled IE 10 which took me back to IE 9.

Since doing that, html images are displaying correctly almost all the time with few exceptions having only place markers.

    Summary

Some people have lost their email messages using Thunderbird. By using Mozbackup regularly, only the very latest messages will be lost.

"This has been satisfactory for me."

    September 4, 2013  |   By jsr1937also

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.8

    Pros

I am downloading from several Roadrunner accounts. I am using Windows 7 on an HP quad processor. I haven't tried to load from yahoo though.

    Cons

I had to redo all my filters and folders when I updated to 17.0.8

    Summary

This has been pretty good for me, Used with WIN 98, WIN XP, WIN 7

    Updated on Sep 4, 2013

Try disabling the firewall and try. You may actually have 2 firewalls enabled. I use ZONE ALARM and Security, disabled WINDOWS firewall.

    Updated on Sep 11, 2013

I have recently loaded Mozilla Thunderbird Portable to a 16GB USB drive. I used a previous version on a 256MB Cruzer USB. I have had some problems over the years that had to be worked out, usually going to a forum or the Mozilla website. It is the only App I've found that will retrieve all my email when I travel.

    "Don't waste your time"

    September 3, 2013  |   By HeadMoose

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.8

    Pros

Looks the same as previous version, and the add-ins seem to work

    Cons

Email can be received but NOT sent. Previous versions worked just fine, current one does not, even when the settings are verified step-by-step.

    Summary

    Crippled and essentially useless!

    "Better than most, but"

    August 11, 2013  |   By CrappyJack

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.8

    Pros

It works with Yahoo, which is now a royal PIA to use. Most email handlers do not.

It allows me to handle all of my email accounts in one place.

    Cons

The Address Book really, really sucks! It used to be better before the last release.

You cannot import from other email accounts conveniently.
Importing contact list for Outlook is next to impossible because you can't edit columns in Thunderbird.
I see no way to merge various address books together.
Almost everything ever put on the internet about this program is now incorrect with the latest release.

It is not "business" friendly at all.

    Summary

If you are unfortunate enough to have a Yahoo email account (I've had mine over 30 years with the same email address) you are pretty much stuck with this program if you don't want to change email providers.

I think the earlier versions were actually more user friendly in practical applications. Whoever took over this project, IMHO, really screwed it up.

    Updated on Aug 15, 2013

Help files or documentation is nonexistent. It's as if the product never existed prior to this release. Searches that should return dozens of returns, return nothing.

This product is not ready for prime time. Big disappointment when compared to other Mozilla products.

    Updated on Aug 17, 2013

Here are a few of the shortfalls of this software.

    1. No ability to select which email account you are sending email from without actually changing to that account.

    2. You can have an emotioncon, but you can't highlight text.

    3. You do not have the option of deleting emails from your computer while leaving a copy on the server. You delete and Thunderbird deletes EVERYTHING.

    4. No ability to merge and manage address books from different email accounts.

    "I Love Thunderbird, BUT"

    August 9, 2013  |   By run4bear

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.8

    Pros

Not many improvements and several glitches.

    Cons

I am SUCK TO DEATH of them shoving every little "so-called improvement" at me. I daresay not much testing could be remotely possible as often the "updates" cause more problems. Take me back a few years when Thunderbird worked just fine.

    Summary

New and Improved is rarely the case with updates on Thunderbird. It must take a dozen "upgrades" to fix what was ruined by the previous. I'm going WAY back. I can manage my mail without the glitches and errors.

    "can not sen or receive"

    August 9, 2013  |   By crazzyot

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.8

    Pros

    my last version worked fine.

    Cons

when i dnldd 17.0.8.4961, i get errors when i try to 'get mail' - Unable to connect

The connection was refused when attempting to contact live.mozillamessaging.com.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Thunderbird is permitted to access the Web. TRY AGAIN
when i hit SEND, i get: Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server smtp.comcast.net failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact the server administrator.

    Summary

i have NO email access except web mail and dont know how to go back to previous ver of TB or, how to get past this ROADBLOCK! i see no one else has yet reviewed 17.0.8..................
