"A LOVE and Hate Affair, with version 31.0"
Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 31.0
A Nice Good Email program, and it replaced a lot of Email Clients I tried after my
Windows Vista Mail crapped out and I screamed and got no help. But it installed well, allowing me use all my prior settings (and keep the same email address) That was a big selling feature. Support and help files, is Unheralded an it had
answered every question and problem I had. The add ons too are nifty. I do not need them now but I will cross that bridge when and if needed. But I got mine running like my Dad's classic 1955 T-Bird (0 to 60 MPH in 8 seconds).
I seen a few bad reviews here and I understand that, as I hated it too, but only
in the beginning. I an not a patient man,.It is nor straight forward as it is learning curve, and I hated that. it in the beginning, I wanted to hit my HP PC with a Hammer, for it it was confusing and painful, like a large Puzzle with pieces missing. Could
Now the envelope please : 3 days later - 22 Hours total was it !!! Great. and it is getting better still. I modified it to my liking (open source). I erased the stuff I did not want or need. Then Thunderbird snapped to life on a restart and it was fast and smooth. Junk and Philshing does not bother me, (My IPO deals with all that crap). If see some junk I just delete them. So if you have a bit of Brains or smarts and are patient give it try... Once all running it is it's own reward, make a Mistake ? No worries Thunderbird is forgiving. It has a has a reset option button (I found it and I did not know that). I used it once to roll back a bit). The only thing I do not care for is all the Tabs, commands and settings (too much clutter), but It took me over 2 1/2 Hours to finally be able to read and try most of them , and understand more of them now with the Thunderbird Help. Do not do a
trial and error (I prefer simplicity). I will still be learning a bit more as Time goes on. But as of now it works, as It should (spell checker has great option setting it up,(the default works fine too). But Thunerbird is not like a horse, where you jump on it and ride it into the sunset, you need to break it in first. that is the last hurdle. it but in first 3 hours I was sending emails and they where sloooooow, but now, with bit of tweaking (with a few shut downs and restarts) on the last day - NOT SLOW NOW. (Pow !!!) It is quick and slimmed down and it is GREAT, A great (FREE) program... It is not for faint of heart. The archive stuff is just for storage of old files, that was a little bothersome, Read the email then copy and paste them to another location outside Thunderbird, and that works fine (copy and paste, in and out). That was easy enough. (But it's free and an open source too) what more could you want ? Try it just be patient and go slow, You will hate it, then love it. If not there is Gm ail bloatware or Windows Live e-scrap. made for kids. like a cross between Icredimail and Sesame Street. Half the Functions do not work. 2010 is terrible. 2012 is better But you need Windows 7, and Windows Live 2013 is the best but it runs better on Windows 8. and up. Stay away from, from "Merge-mail", It loads 126 instances in the Registry and took me an hour with regedit removing them. I tried many and when "Leo Notenboom" said use Thunderbird 31.0 and I did, and I will never look back. SO BOTTOM LINE : "THUNDERBIRD 31.0" IS GREAT !!!" I love it now and trust me you will too. It Just takes some time. But I use Vista Business with (service pack 2) the best Vista OS, only 1 problem in 3 years is my Vista Mail. it was acting up and went "Kaput !" then it slowly Croaked out.
