    "Pros = Cons with Thunderbird"

    December 18, 2010  |   By trclnick

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 3.1.7

    Pros

It's a free replacementh for Outlook Express.

    Cons

The setup procedure leaves too much to guessing about what to do. Getting tech support help is impossible.

    Summary

I have been trying to get a single account for my email address but it looks like two accounts for the same address are there. Sometimes I get two copies of every email n my inbox. BUT sometimes I don't.
When I first go through the inbox I select those which are spam and then delete them in one action. Sometimes that works properly but other times the UNSELECTED emails are sent to Trash while the ones I wanted to delete lose the Subject line but remain in the inbox.
In Outlook Express, deleted emails went to a delete file which I could clear whenever I wanted. With Thunderbird they go into the Trash folder which is deleted the next day.I have been unable to change that.

    December 16, 2010  |   By Jubalu

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 3.1.7

    Pros

    Fast
    Lots of add-ons
Clean, with perfect balance between personalization and practice...

    Cons

Nothing, as far as I've experienced so far...

    Summary

Just changed from Outlook 2010 to Thunderbird... It`s amazing! Same features, fast (Outlook is extremely heavy if you don`t have a good machine), lots of features, improved interface and FREE!! A really lesson for Microsoft...

    Pros

Free open source program, easy to use, and at least at the time I began using it not common target for hackers like Outlook.

    Cons

    At this price point, none.

"A testament to the open source community"

    December 11, 2010  |   By cjcotterill

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 3.1.7

    Pros

A good open source program and one of the better ones Ive found. Could one day easily replace Microsoft Outlook.

    Easy configuration
Lightweight, very little drain on system recourses
    Superb junk e-mail filter

    Best of all.... ITS FREE!

    Cons

Does have some major downfalls such as all e-mails being downloaded off the server onto the local machine by default and its dependency on ad-ons (which tend to slow it down) for most features that Outlook does with just a few clicks

    Summary

A good program overall, but with a few major downfalls. I dislike being under Microsoft's thumb as much as the next guy but for the moment Outlook is the best in regards to mail management.

One day i have no doubt that open source programs will take the lead over paid Microsoft/Apple products but for the average user, but for the moment they still need work to even come close.

    Cons

    Keeps asking for password

"It's simple and it works for me"

    December 10, 2010  |   By CManley

    Version: Mozilla Thunderbird 3.1.7

    Pros

It does everything outlook express did when I switched and once I got the hang of it, the program grew on me.

    Cons

sometimes I make changes and can't remember how I did it

    Summary

I've used Thunderbird for 5 years. I'm now on my 3rd PC and I've been able to keep what I want in archive by using MOZBACKUP. This let me go from Windows 2000 to XP to 7 without a hitch.
