Version: Mozilla Firefox 2
"Great, but I am sticking with v1.5.0.7 till I get my extensions compatible!"
Pros: Its a seriously better upgrade than the bloody moronic IE7. Also, it remains the best browser for newbies.
And hey the spell check is not a big deal. I have been using Google Toolbar SpellCheck all this while. So it isn't a serious upgrade for savvy users.
Cons: For people who have customized the browser with their set of extensions - they wouldn't wanna change to the latest release, because of incompatibility issues. However, I wanna point out that this is NOT Firefox or Mozilla's problem. The extensions have been made by you and me kinda people, and it is on to them to upgrade it. Too bad, too sad, but you do still have the option of sticking with yer 1.5.0.7
The only other con remains - Opera still is the best - however, it cannot be our main browser, because of webpage incompatibility issues.
ITZ ALL ABOUT COMPATIBILITY in today's world!

There is no doubt that Opera beats Firefox hands down with security. I say this not just because those in the know say so
(secunia) but also from my own experience. I use Opera as my primary browser and use it about 85% of the time with Firefox being used about 10% and IE 5% only when certain websites require Firefox or IE to be used. Bearing this in mind and I surf the net almost daily, If I were to pick up any trojans or viruses then with 85% exposure Opera would have a far greater chance of letting something nasty through, HOWEVER this is not the case, If we take the last 6 months I've only picked up one major trojan and one major virus (The latter virus required me to reformat my hard drive!), on both occasion which browser was I using, yep you guessed it Firefox! I've just got my system back up and running and there is NO way I'm going to Install Firefox again, if I can avoid it. DON'T believe all those that say it's a secure browser... It isn't! Stick with Opera and stay safe!

I agree - compatability is a major issue for those that use some of the specialized programs that were written to be run under ie-xxx. For instance - I use a website that is written by Ameritrade -. I have had some issues using some of their functions when using browsers other than ie OR Netscape. I am afraid to load up the Firefox until I get some fuzzy feeling that if I do need to go back and run ie that the firefox has not made any changes to the system files or the registry that will basically make ie not compatible with the system anymore. ie - can I go back and forth between ie and Firefox without a problem??

Firefox2 takes lot of time to load webpages even in highspeed broadband.Sometimes it gives messages as "Firefox can't connect securely to .....because the site uses an older, insecure version of the ssl protocol" and goes back to startpage. It has also invalidated "ffaddontoolbar". While v.1.5.0.7 gives all pages instantly without any messages and accomodates all very usable addons.Since I am a regular user of Firefox and as I depend on Firefox alone,I had to switchback to v.1.5.0.7(this I am writing using v.1.5.0.7 after uninstalling Firefox2)The developers may note this to make Firefox2 more userfriendly giving all that in v.1.5.0.7

You had many good points regarding the extensions comp ability and spell checking but the reason why i do not think that Opera is better than Firefox is because opera lacks a phishing filter which nowadays is very important, in fact the only 2 browsers that have the phishing filter is Firefox and ie7. I would recommend opera as the second best browser and ie the WORST (because of the security issues). Although i would have to admit that opera has a more attractive interface than Firefox. I would also highly recommend you upgrade ASAP to version 2 . all the extensions will be upgraded very shortly to version 2 so you don't have to worry too much about waiting. and by the way THESE DAYS ITS ALL ABOUT SECURITY, NOT REALLY COMPATIBILITY.
