    Version: Mozilla Firefox 1.0.1

    "Best Yet - HOWEVER...."

by Corydory on March 2, 2005

Pros: When all is said and done the lastest update is the fastest and most stable I've used.

Most of the old extensions WILL work (Adblocker, Conquery, Tab prefs ect) However be aware that half WILL NOT - and you can kiss all your themes goodbye bar a few - unless you like a crashing Firefox...this brings me to the cons

Cons: 1. Make sure you uninstall the previous Firefox, dump or move the program file and the application file (in Windows/Application/Mozilla) otherwise the program with crash and burn. Start with a clean slate and you shouldn't have any problems - them move or hunt down your fav extentions (a simple file drop into the extention window works - Firefox will tell you if you can use it or not)

However my main complaint is the update feature - it doesn't work half the time and Firefox's extention page can't reconize that you have 1.01 at all. This update was released half baked in my opinion and you kind of get the jest this is really a PATCH instead of an updated browser.

So installing the 'patch' is recommened, just be prepared to take the time to work on it.

One last thing, beware of some themes with this version, they can seriously change the way Firefox looks (oviously - but not in a good way, and runs) Enjoy

I thought I'd advocate a bit... new users won't have these problems, and many people upgrade Firefox on Windows without problems (I myself had one box (W98) work fine and one (XP) had temporary "issues" which solved themselves). My Linux box had no problems at all :-DDD. Anyway, despite these minor "growth pains", Firefox is Essential Life Software.

I'm rushing to the defensive because when I used IE I was put off Opera by people on this site talking about adverts, registration and cost. Later (too far later) I realised that it's irrelevant!

    Perhaps Windows is the problem?

So many people have so many different versions of MS Windows running so many different SPs and 'security' updates, it is reasonable to assume that sometimes the development misses all the ticks in all the boxes.

Firefox runs/intalls/works on Linux systems... this is a black and white fact.

The question is why the difference. MS should be on top of their own operating system... I am sure they could use these facts to there advantage. Mozilla have done a sterling job navigating the MS layed minefield.

I just updated to version 1.01 without any problem. FYI, I use Adblock, SpoofStick and StockTicker constantly and everything still works fine.

A few days ago, when I tried to update FF manually (from the Advanced Panel"), downloading the update took forever. I guess the server(s) was(were) too busy?
