"Fast, expandable, getting faster!"

December 16, 2010  |  By friedchikkin

 |  Version: Mozilla Firefox 4 beta 7

Using Firefox 4.0 beta 8 - even faster than beta 7!
64 bit, snappy, expandable with add-ons like AdBlockPlus, NoScript and thousands more!

Doesn't beat other browsers in performance by some nit picking split seconds which seems to make some cry.

Mozilla just uploaded the beta 8 update here: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/4.0b8-candidates/ I'm using it right now and it's noticeably faster than the beta 7! As suspected they've also released a Nightly beta 9 Minefield build for anyone whom would like to test it out.

I'll be upfront any state that I've been a Firefox fan for years. I like being able to add themes, ad-blockers and script blockers so only sites and third party sites can load scripts (this includes Flash!) AS I CHOOSE and I almost take for granted not seeing ads anywhere. Not only is it fast and robust but it proves even more customizable via typing 'about:config' in the address bar- you'll know what I mean.

I've a MacPro 4,1 2.66GHz 10.6.5 4GB RAM/Radeon HD 4870

All browsers are fast on my machine; I've tried Chrome, Safari and Firefox, mainly- Firefox being my default browser. They all perform well, but I don't have a slowpoke computer- it's not the fastest but it's fast! I don't cry over waiting an extra split second for a page to load... big deal! It's really up to your preference when it comes down to it- even CPU magazine calls this "the best browser", period.

"Intel only"

November 11, 2010  |  By CyberSkull

I liked nothing about the 4b7. Everything on the website says universal binary and it is Intel-only.

Intel-only. This is really irritating.

I couldn't give 4b7 a spin at all because despited the labeling on the website, it is Intel-only.

"Why they are folding off . . ."

November 10, 2010  |  By SandFarmer

 |  Version: Mozilla Firefox 4 beta 7

As with all the 4bx versions . . . None so far.

So many that Mozilla is wisely holding off until next year to move forward. There is a God.

The moment the 4bx series was released it was glaringly apparent that Firefox was either seriously flawed or Mozilla had lost their minds and thought garbage was the new cool. I thought I was going nuts until I read that they are holding off due to numerous and continuing issues. I kept thinking that "aren't new versions suppose to be better?". I was not able to effectively use 4bx and had to revert to 3.6 (now) .12, OF WHICH I swear, although, once you revert to another version things pick up as if you never left, things are not as they were. Once I ran a 4bx version my 3.6.x versions never run as well as they did. 4bx is not only seriously flawed, but if you revert after running one, expect issues until next year and things are fixed. All fixed. Fingers crossed.

Not sure why I got a review request for 4b7, and then after I write a review, a Watch List release notice for the same version. So I DL it AND then this version of 4b7 will not run on my machine even though, from what is listed, it is well within spec.

What is going on with Mozilla and Firefox?
