Version: Morpheus 5.2
"The File Description Is Totally False"
Cons: The last line of the File Description states: "Morpheus is free and contains absolutely no spyware or third-party bundled software." If you chose to download this file, and then "run" it, you get a dialogue box giving you two options: "Free - " Download and install Free ad supported version of Morpheus or $19.95 USD ad free Morpheus Ultra with no bundled software, pop-ups or banners (and six months free updates.) " That tells me that if you go for the free option you WILL get bundled software etc !!! Also take note - the file size is NOT 185 K - once that is on your hard drive you then have to download a further file to install the actual program. And if you take your time making a choice as to which version you want - as I did to write this comment, it goes ahead and starts the download anyway !! If you want a P2P programme, I suggest you leave this well alone - there are enough reports on the internet confirming that this programme is full of bundled software, spyware, adware and the like. Go for Limewire instead which definitely doesn't have any added software and which works extremely well.

Morpheus and Limewire are much of a muchness with the commercial versions. Different screens, similar capabilities. Limewire may not be compatible with some systems or administrative functions tho and will not work ever again with XP as in my friends case (unremoveable hidden DLL. HDD format only way to remove). I found the last version and this version of Morph to be 100% free of ad and virus downloads, so far (18 months). There are ads in the Morph screen, but are removed on closing program. Get a dedicated spy, virus and ad ware prog, or 2, and check for yourself. All P2Ps are vulnerable. Just take normal precautions. Simple. Morph unloads with ease and no admin probs with subsequent installs.

First off, like ALL P2P programs out there, it will be bundled with ad'ed software, which isn't too much of a problem. Get something like Wintasks Pro 5.0, and simply don't allow these programs to run, and if you still have a problem, you'll have to find the data file to change it's running value, to be able to run without it. ALL FREE P2P PROGRAMS COME WITH BUNDLED SOFTWARE. And sorry if you took your time with the download. It shouldn't be much of a problem, as you can CANCEL the dialog process when it asks the directory to save it in. Personally, I HATE Limewire. It's inconsistent, and has caused too many stupid errors with my PC,(Mind you I'm NOT PC-illiterate.) I'm still trying to find out what happened to Bearshare's free P2P, and if you can find it, GO BEARSHARE. This is an alternative, and so far, has been alright, yet provides more resources then Limewire does, and it does have a better interface. If you know what you're doing with a computer, simply take that little extra time longer, and torrent things. MUCH more consistent, if you're tired of un-literated people taking up bandwidth on P2P networks. Just giving my voice.

Thanks for your detailed review, I was about to set up Morpheus too and saw the choices that I needed to make and decided against either of them. I'm using the latest version of Ares and haven't any problem with it, so I guess I'll stick with it. Thanks again for the review before I made a mistake.
