"A great dockbar and free! Its not dead YET!"

by CableguyTK on January 25, 2006

    Pros: Its free.

It mimics the OSX Dock Bar very well.

Has some nice features the other dock bars don't have.

Cons: Development, for all intents and purposes, has stopped. This version available on Download.com was released November 2003.

Program requires at least DirectX 9.0b.

    "Not a good choice."

by Starwarskid on September 2, 2006

    Pros: It's free...

Cons: It's too power hungry and has minimalistic performance. If you want a dock, and don't want to use up a lot of resourses, Aqua Dock is a lot better than this. The zoom effect and CPU usage is better. If you want a GREAT dock and don't mind it using up some CPU, then get ObjectDock. OD is the best dock around, but Aqua Dock is light on CPU and better than Moby Dock. Of course, this is just my opinion.

    "Pretty Good"

by afrobat on April 12, 2005

Pros: Mobydock is very customizable. There are a lot of functions. I made mobydock look like the mac os x dock.

Cons: It crashes a lot when you first install it. However, it should stop after restarting your computer once or twice.

    "Good Enough"

by jymmsom on June 27, 2007

Pros: I'm running rocketdock, rkDock, and MobyDock with renamed shortcuts to keep desktop clear. You can scale this down enough to just being a toolbar, which is all I wanted. Saves memory, processing time, etc. You can individually rename text that will pop up when highlighting each icon which is GREAT for keeping track of folder links (you can also leave that field blank). Lots of customization for those who just want to clear up desktops cluttered with shortcuts, default is intensive and pretty but you can scale it back to just being an icon tray and load only when you click the mobydock shortcut. This is running on Vista, as well as the others, perfectly. You can also redirect icons and it appears there is some scripting functionality for command lines but I haven't played with that.

Cons: Rocket dock seems 'slightly' faster and is the one I use as a toolbar at boot up. You cannot simply make repeat mobydock1, mobydock2, etc directories with different short cuts and have several different docks as far as I'm aware. You cannot disable all icon labels at once but have to do them individually (you can with rocket dock).

RkDock (yzDock?) is my least favorite. There are several items you cannot remove and it seems to be the slowest to load.

You have to pay to have multiple docks up at once but it IS possible which is a very nice feature if you didn't mind spending the money. Otherwise, if you need more than one, use all three- don't have more than one load at boot, rename them to something recognizable (the shortcuts), and position them to load on different parts of the screen (right, bottom, top) so that you can have all three up at once when need be.

    "It's Great"

by Afrodude on March 30, 2005

Pros: It's extremely customizable with a lot of different options to change it to your liking. I've customized my dock so that it looks like the mac docks.

Cons: It is a bit buggy at first. However, if you leave it on your computer and constantly use it, after around 2 restarts, it should start working properly.
