"Versions 6 (and 7) of Express simply suck."

    October 13, 2012   |   By criskrit

    Version: MixMeister Express 6.1.3

    Pros

The only software (that i know of) for making "static" (not on the fly) mixes.

    Cons

Interface sucks. Zooming in/out won't even focus on the cursor! (clearly a bug). Beat mixing is off some times (and cannot be fixed because there are no "sprokets" that v5 had). Moving the track markers doesn't move the volume envelopes. Master volume control for each track is totally useless. Playlist windows is also useless, doesn't even display track duration, or original BPM. The timeline also useless - it counts track bars not minutes:seconds. To top it off: support is non-existent, they NEVER reply and this is for PAYING customers.

    Summary

Lots of simple user-friendly things (see my CONS comments) are omitted after version 5 of Express in order to be marketed as "features" for more expensive (Fusion & Studio) versions. It is a disgrace. Try to find an alternative and please let me know so i can switch as well!

    "What happened to bpm's?!"

    April 02, 2012   |   By benniegirl

    Version: MixMeister Express 6.1.3

    Pros

I'm a group fitness instructor and I've been using Mixmeister 5.0 for years with wonderful results.

    Cons

Upgraded to 7.0 in September and what a disappointment. The BPMs are all over the place and no matter how I set them they're inconsistent. I increased the bpms of one song from 94 to 120 and the speed nor time ever changed. The customer service person I talked with kept telling to try fixes I had already done 10 times on my on and can't explain what the problem is. He didn't seem to know and is going to "review" and get back to me. I hinted for another tech and he was offended. Still waiting for the "fix"

    Summary

I am very disappointed in the "upgrade". I'd like to repurchase my Mixmeister 5.0 please.

    "Good, but frustrating"

    October 28, 2011   |   By biz2

    Version: MixMeister Express 6.1.3

    Pros

iTunes integration...relatively quick and pretty accurate at finding BPMs for songs...good for constructing mixes at one sitting...disc burning or saving songs can be done as individual songs or as a long mix.

    Cons

No way to normalize songs or playlists (even tho the manual says it does (see my description of "support"). so you have to create a "Volume Marker" for each track and set each song...when tracks are saved, you supposedly have the option of saving them to any location on your computer (such as your desktop, for instance), but it turns out that it will only save to one set location: your main drive right next to your Applications, Library, System and User folders...unreliable support

    Summary

It's fun and relative easy to use as long as you're willing to put up with quirkiness from this product and the support "person(s)." As for the "support": I'm wondering if it's automated, because the answers are not only wrong, but it seems like key words are searched for in help requests and approximate answers are sent. It takes 10 days if you're just trying it out: "We generally do not offer support for demo versions of our products." Well, gosh, isn't that the time when people want to find out if there's any problems before they lay out hard cash for it? First, I was told that you couldn't create separate tracks of your mix because it was a "known bug on [a] Mac..." Actually, you CAN, but I wanted to know why the tunes could only be saved to one location - no answer...and when I asked later why I couldn't find the "normalize" function (which is mentioned on page 52 in the manual called "MIxMeister Express for Macintosh" and appears in online reviews), I was told that it's not available in Express and that I need to buy their more expensive "Studio" or "Fusion" versions. There doesn't seem to be a time limit for the trial, but every 5 minutes (beginning 1 minute into your use), you get a vocal reminder that you're using the trial version, so, If you're considering getting this, use it to it's (near) fullest under the trial version until you think that you're satisfied before moving forward to purchase this slightly pricey product. Maybe, by that time, there will be updated fixes to it's quirks.

I'm giving it three and a half stars.

"A little pricey but and excellent product."

    December 31, 2009   |   By alibaba47

    Version: MixMeister Express 6.1.3

    Pros

This product is very, very easy to use. You have control over everything right in front of you. I would recomend that you pay the extra $10 for a CD so you can use it in all your computers, I have 5 in my house.

    Cons

I wish it would align the beats from one song to another better. If you have to move the beginning of a song, then you have to realign the beats all over. It's not hard, but just takes time.

    Summary

For anyone that wants to make mixed CD's like I do for aerobics and step instructors at the club I belong to, this is an excellent product.

    "Nice interface, poor sound quality."

    October 16, 2007   |   By absentspace

    Version: MixMeister Express 6.1.3

    Pros

The interface is nice, you have a timeline with keypoints to control track volume, bass, and treble levels. The software will automatically beatmatch and crossfade for you, but allows you to customize the transition.

    Cons

The sound quality of the tracks was degraded after putting them through the software. There was an audible "crackling" sound on several of the tracks.

    "This is a great program"

    April 18, 2006   |   By Raget

    Version: MixMeister Express 6.1.3

    Pros

Generally, there isnt much wrong with this program, there are many things GOOD about it. This program is suitable for home users right through to proffessionals (who might want the pro or studio version). The official website doesnt market to home users, but it is very useful for general listening, with great effects, and a bit of fun too.

    Cons

A few options and tweaks should be more accessable, rather then going through menus etc.

    "Great mixer for fitness instructors"

    March 12, 2006   |   By conifer

    Version: MixMeister Express 6.1.3

    Pros

I had been using a combination of WMP (for building my playlists)and Nero (for the ability to cross-fade) to do my CDs for class and had tried other programs before another fitness instructor mentioned this one. For mixing, this is THE Program! For me, the 49.00 price was easily justifiable. The program allows full control over how songs overlap, volume control, fade, and an interesting feature called beatmix which matches the beats on the end and beginning on two songs. It loads quickly on my machine and doesn't seem to eat up as much memory as Nero.

    Cons

Although the search function is excellent, the library needs to be a little more customizable. You can sort by any column and add or remove columns from the list, but you can't change the positions of the columns! It's also a little slow (when compared with Nero) for burning, and weak when compared with Windows Media Player for playlist building.

Also, in order to print a song list for a CD or cover, you have to save a text file then export it into something like Excel to customize the content and then either print from there or paste/import into another program for further customizing! A real drag compared to even the simplest of label printing software. Not very intuitive.
