"Too much underpowered"
None I can think of: ever most basic free software alternatives does better what Works does. Ok, it is quite simple to use.
Why pay for something so sub-par? It would have hard times to get accepted by users even if it was free.
Seriously MS, you won the Office battle so badly that you killed even your non-Office productivity suite, so why do you continue to waste your resources there?
They would be far better spent joining the open source community and help improving Open Office.
You would have an huge return in terms of image, and you could even roll out (with a smaller effort) a MS Open Office to be preinstalled on low cost computers instead of Works, with better compatibility with Office's formats and look and feel, keeping for MS Office the key features that gives its huge advantage.
