    "Silverlight sucks"

    October 22, 2013  |   By silverlightsucks

    Version: Microsoft Silverlight 3.0.40624

    Pros

    Have yet to experience any...

    Cons

With a new laptop, netflix worked great! Better than my older (about 2 years old) laptop. This older laptop had silverlight installed. Then netflix required silverlight to play a movie. This is when the problems started. Most notably, the audio and video never seam to sync properly. Most annoying, the frequent message that "The plug-in silverlight has failed." which of course requires a reboot.

    Summary

Do not install silverlight or any other microsoft program for that matter. Microsoft is dead and propogating this death by continuing to use microsoft products is inhuman and cruel. Let microsoft die a peaceful death and move on. Maybe some day microsoft will realize they no longer have a legitimized-monopoly and need to actually write software that works!

    "Installation was incredibly frustrating!"

    March 12, 2013  |   By sarahhenning1

    Version: Microsoft Silverlight 3.0.40624

    Pros

Has let me watch part of a lecture I needed to see- the only pro!

    Cons

As noted above I did need to install this to watch a lecture. Despite going to the webpage 2 hours prior to the lecture it only told me I needed to install it when the lecture started - 20 minutes, 3 installation attempts and a restart later it finally worked (after I searched for 'couldn't load plug ins' and got some advice). By this point I'd missed 20 mins of the lecture which couldn't be restarted and I'm so frustrated I'm ready to hurl the computer out of the window!!! Really annoyed and will be removing the installation as soon as lecture is finished.

    Summary

Really frustrating to install - I expected more from Microsoft!

    "The Current Version Is 4.xxx"

    January 1, 2011  |   By TubeProgrammer

    Version: Microsoft Silverlight 3.0.40624

    Pros

It's a great plug. Developers can quickly and easily code very complex Silverlight apps and I see more coming out in the future.

    Cons

    Installation can be a pain.

    Summary

I dislike version 3.xxx because is completely outdated and any newer "2010" apps will make you install silverlight 4.xxx anyway. This particular software entry should be removed from the index.

    "spyware and malware"

    August 31, 2010  |   By wallysmith01

    Version: Microsoft Silverlight 3.0.40624

    Pros

none, none, and absolutely none, unless you like your privacy invaded.

    Cons

reports to microsoft NO MATTER WHAT

    Summary

no matter what you do within windows to NOT have reports and data sent to microsoft, this little program will not install unless you agree to have it send info about your windows and computer (and whatever other data they take without your knowledge). i guess you're not allowed to watch certain flash videos (IE: olympics and netflix) without big brother watching you. in my eyes this is illegal and is a form of spyware/malware.

    "Microsoft Silverlight is necessary."

    May 26, 2010  |   By Zane77

    Version: Microsoft Silverlight 3.0.40624

    Pros

Microsoft Silverlight is a web application framework that provides functionalities similar to those in Adobe Flash integrating multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single runtime environment. It is necessary to watch some videos.

    Cons

I have no cons about Silverlight.
