    "Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro"

    January 26, 2005  |

Version: Microsoft Sidewinder Game Controller Software 3.02

    Summary

SWFF Pro V.3x not compatible with XP. I see notes where people go to Game Controller and choose the (auto detect) for Sidewinder Joysticks - still WILL NOT WORK if you don't have the Version 4 software. XP WILL NOT RECOGNIZE 3x VERSIONS!!! SO IF YOU CAN'T LOAD SOFTWARE - YOU CAN'T USE CONTROLLER !!!

"XP Has Native Support for 15 Pin Sidewinder Gampad, this software not required"

    January 12, 2005  |

Version: Microsoft Sidewinder Game Controller Software 3.02

    Summary

Plugged it in to my Soundblaster Gameport then added the SideWinder (AutoDetect) device under Game Controllers in Control Panel. Once I cleared up the issue with the SB game controller, the game pad works great.

"Microsoft Game port controllers does not work in win XP"

    October 10, 2004  |

Version: Microsoft Sidewinder Game Controller Software 3.02

    Summary

I have a game port force feedback wheel and joystick and they both don't work in win xp. No drivers are aviable for game port devices. Why can't microsoft update the drivers for win XP. Do they need to make more money beacuse I have to now buy the USB versions.

    "No, that doesn't help..."

    October 9, 2004  |

Version: Microsoft Sidewinder Game Controller Software 3.02

    Summary

Let me just concur with all the other votes that count: Microsoft sucks donkey for not supporting their own hardware. Thats the end of my Microsoft hardware experience.

As for the "XP Support" mentioned by PanicMan, that works great... as long as you only want to use the d-pad. To actually get any use out of the Sidewinder pads, you have to be able to program the buttons. To do that, you need this piece of software, which will definitely NOT install on a 2000/XP machine. Therefore, without this particular piece of software, the stick is mostly _useless_. (Unless you like walking around not being able to use anything...)
