    "Found virus others did not!!!"

    November 7, 2010  |   By virginia-jim

    Version: Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1611.0

    Pros

Easy to use and was thankful it found the virus that redirected browser constantly. AVG, Malwarebytes, Search and Destroy, found nothing...MSE did and removed virus on it's own.

    Cons

    Haven't found anything yet...

    Summary

    Works and it free!!!

    "Great free antivirus"

    November 4, 2010  |   By convict65

    Version: Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1611.0

    Pros

Great free antivirus, doesnt hog system resources, like many of the others do, even when doing a scan, good detection rate.

    Cons

No cons ive come accross yet.

    Summary

Spent more than a week trying many free antivirus sotware, and this was a clear winner by far. Didnt notice any slowing down of my pc, good detection rate, downloaded test files off the internet, and it picked up everyone of them and either quarantined or blocked the files. Ive got it running with Comodo free firewall & Iobit 360 Antispyware, carried out regular scans, and no virus or spyware to be found. JUST GREAT !!!

"low RAM? your computer will be unusable"

    November 3, 2010  |   By tolworthy

    Version: Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1611.0

    Pros

It's free, and others say it is good. I probably is, if you have enough memory.

    Cons

On XP with 512 MB RAM: turn the computer on, and half an hour later it's still unusable. MsMpEng.exe (part of MSE) uses up to 400 MB - sometimes more - so the hard disk thrashes constantly, and the computer does not respond.

    Summary

I installed MSE because people say it has a low overhead, and my computer is old. The CPU usage may be low, but the RAM usage is insane. Maybe it works perfectly on a modern computer (most modern computers have at least 1 GB of memory), but if your computer has 512 MB or less, avoid MSE at all costs.

    "Perfect in this Recession"

    October 27, 2010  |   By 424aca

    Version: Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1611.0

    Pros

This anti-virus is probably the greatest one you can get.
It does not bother you with ads to get the pro version because THERE IS NONE.
It is really memory friendly and you can do work while the scan is running

    Cons

    Can't find any

    Summary

The only reason Microsoft does not make this a default anti-virus is because the other companies will call a monopoly low suit. DUMB

    THIS IS THE BEST.

"Easy To Use and Powerful Protection"

    October 18, 2010  |   By Alan_Houston

    Version: Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1611.0

    Pros

MSE is easy to install, and easy to use. It does not slow down underpowered entry-level computers the way most anti-virus programs do. It blocks new infections while removing "old" infections and malware better than its competitors.

    Cons

Full scans take a looong time. But, a full-scan on a friend's badly infected computer found and removed five viruses that were not found by a quick scan.

    Summary

MSE is the perfect anti-virus and anti-malware program for everyday computer users who do NOT want to have to personally manage their computer's security.

MSE is easy to download and install. The user can set MSE to update itself and run a scan automatically. It does not slow down an underpowered entry-level computer the way most anti-virus programs do. One of the "big name" anti-virus programs can bring many computers to a virtual halt by hogging all of the computer's resources.

If MSE was simply easy to install and easy to use, it would still be useless if it did not do its job. But, MSE has kept my new computers "clean" from virus infections and malware. MSE was able to remove viruses from badly infected computers after every one of its major competitors had failed.

If MSE sold for $60, it would be a bargain. It is the best free software I have ever used.

"I thought it wasnt working, but then..."

    October 14, 2010  |   By tecknowledge

    Version: Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1611.0

    Pros

Fast install, uncomplicated settings, speed is like I'm running without antivirus.

    Cons

    None, so far.

    Summary

I've had MSSE installed for just less than a year and until now, it has been uneventful. My computer runs fast, updates and scans are seamless and I don't even know its there. At one point, I started to think it wasnt even working until I was helping out a friend one day. I plugged in his hard drive that he thought might be infected. The second I plugged in the hard drive, MSSE alerted there was a virus in the MBR....and it was right. I was able to copy the files he needed and scan and remove threats during the process. I was quite pleased.
