The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats.

We have MSOffice 2003, 2007 and 2010. Plus some use OpenOffice.org.
Cons
Don't have any problems getting work finished.
Summary
We don't loose the Format. We have saved time and quality in our network.

Of course you can even use open office 3.2 to open docx. But this is less complicated.

Not always succesfull in the transition. Some editing needed a couple of time so far.
Summary
OK and needed to manage all those different format from MS. Other Office tools have this respect of consistency in the format, which makes them more flexible to user around the world.
