"Would like more resume templates in Word"

    March 6, 2015  |   By amandasc

    Version: Microsoft Office 2011 14.4.8

    Pros

I love this Microsoft product, it's the best ever with all its tools.
Don't know I would live without.

    Cons

I really, but really would love to have better resume templates, that are creative like those on http://www.trendyresumes.com and http://www.cvfolio.com and more templates in general.

    Summary

Great A++ but would love to have more templates.

    "Good for a Microsoft Product"

    February 19, 2015  |

    Version: Microsoft Office 2011 14.4.8

    Pros

Stable, Versatile, and looks good on my dock

    Cons

Expands PDF files to make them approx. 110 times larger, making them impossible to email
Takes long time syncing on Dropbox
    TOOOOOOOOOOOO expensive

    Summary

It is a good little piece of software, but it cost me a $165 to buy Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. I also had compatibility issues, because the first one I bought was supporting PowerPC applications, (which my Mac does not) so I had to get a refund and get another one. Other than that, and PDF issues, Office is a well rounded software.

"WORD: Not perfect, but what is?"

    January 14, 2015  |   By CWDD

    Version: Microsoft Office 2011 14.4.7

    Pros

This is the standard word processing program. You must use it or be unable to function with the rest of the English speaking world. There is no use complaining about something that cannot be changed.

    Cons

There are several, but the grammar / spell checker is my pet peeve. Whoever wrote this part of the program does not know grammar. My latest complaint is that the use of possessives before gerunds is marked as an error. This is not an error. This is the way it should be. The user must know grammar, not rely on the checker. I do feel sorry for writers who do not know grammar... their products must be full of errors that may reflect badly on them.

On line help is also bad. There are many problems for which there is no help.

    Summary

I don't think Microsoft cares whether or not the product is perfect. There will be a new version next year, with another purchase required, more glitzy, and no one will fix the old ones.

    "Great except Outlook"

    August 28, 2014  |

    Version: Microsoft Office 2011 14.4.4

    Pros

Word, Excel and Powerpoint are good. Not as good as on PC, but good enough to get the job done.

    Cons

Outlook is USELESS because emails sent on Mac and read on PC will randomly change your fonts and font sizes. A bug Microsoft has not been willing to solve for many years. So your emails will look like having been written by a 5 years old if viewed on PC. Avoid Outlook 2011 on Mac.

    Summary

Good pack except for Outlook. Problem is, there is no good email client software for Mac as far as I know unless you use Gmail or very simple emails.

"Not as good as the Windows version"

    June 2, 2014  |   By JemicaK

    Version: Microsoft Office 2011 14.4.1

    Pros

Stable, offering more features and built-in OS X ones

    Cons

Cut off some useful features from the Windows version
    Too expensive!

    Summary

I'd rather use Windows for document working

    "Useless product"

    May 1, 2014  |   By BradMoore

    Version: Microsoft Office 2011 14.4.1

    Pros

    Not a lot worth mentioning.

    Cons

The product is useless for anyone working with locked documents, such as the many thousands of report writing templates in the workplace. When re-locking a document all data is lost.
When saving a document to PDF a 250 KB file becomes anywhere up to 110 times larger making it impossible to email.

    Summary

Don't buy a mac thinking thinking Office Mac 2011 will make the transition easier.

    "No support for OpenDocument Format"

    April 20, 2014  |   By drumsandmusic

    Version: Microsoft Office 2011 14.4.1

    Pros

    * good stability

    Cons

    * expensive
    * no ODF support
    * no interoperability with iWork files

    Summary

LibreOffice or OpenOffice both do support OpenDocument Format, MS Office Format and iWork format.

MS Office only support MS Office support. This is inacceptable. Especially since the Windows version of MS Office has had OpenDocument Format support for quite some time now.

Microsoft ignoring OS X as usual. Should have been an update for the existing MS Office Suite (2011) for OS X years ago.

    "Only plays with itself"

    March 26, 2014  |   By riverchik

    Version: Microsoft Office 2011 14.3.9

    Pros

    Handles MS Exchange accounts perfectly
Good time zone management for appointments

    Cons

Does not play nicely with gmail and GoDaddy email accounts
Not integrated with Mac contacts so you have to maintain 2 contact apps
Cannot see email domains unless you are on that domain (described as a "feature" but highly annoying)
    Folder management is clunky

    Summary

Not user friendly, typical Microsoft complexity and clunkiness.

I spent 4 weeks with a Microsoft Senior Support engineer trying to troubleshoot my email accounts. He admitted that it wasn't a Mac issue (I cleared it with Apple support) but he couldn't figure out why my gmail and GoDaddy email accounts would constantly ask me for my password and had connection problems. After a month and hours on the phone he figured out the Microsoft configuration change he needed to make (to accommodate a change from the Mavericks OS).

    "Faute de mieux"

    January 10, 2014  |   By Catchalove

    Version: Microsoft Office 2011 14.3.9

    Pros

Makes Windows-compatible versions of Word, Excel & PowerPoint documents.

    Cons

Extremely capricious. Outlook in all its detail is an almost unusable hack work, but the worst - it's unable to synchronizing neither with Mail nor with Contacts on your Mac.

    Summary

Only to make Windows-readable copies to send them in e-mail attachements.
