"MS Updates would not work without this"
Version: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1
Pros
Needed. Finally got it to work after 3 trys.
Cons
Had to un install a lot of software first, then download this. Better to go directly to Microsoft for this type of software. What a terrible piece of cr@p. Took 2 hours to complete correctly in the proper order. Not CNETs fault.
Summary
Go directly to Microsoft

"Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1 works."
Version: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1
Pros
I'm not a software developer either but several excellent freeware programs (such as VueMinder Lite) require Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1; therefore, I am giving it a 5-star rating. Microsoft suffers much criticism but they offer the best O/S and Office Suite, among other things. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1 does what it is supposed to do.
Cons
No known cons.

"Do I need MS .NET Framework to run Windows XP SP3?"
Version: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1
Pros
Help needed!
I am not a software developer or tester.
My C-Drive is brimming with versions 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 Client Profile, and 4.0 Extended. Over 400 MB is occupied.
I do not know if I need these for my Windows XP SP3 operating system to run normally.
If not needed, I intend to uninstall the whole lot. Can I go ahead with removal?
I also have Microsoft Visual C++ in different versions. Can I uninstall all these too, without affecting the OS?
Please guide.Cons
I am just seeking help from knowledgeable people.

"Why are people using this Horrid framework ???"
Version: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1
Pros
Only seems to Work on new Windows installations. I suppose business love giving money to Microsoft and Dell for a new O/S.
Cons
It is as big as an elephant. Older .net apps don't work on it. You have to decompile and recompile in Version 3.5. I suppose software developers don't mind this if you bought their software.
Summary
I was wrong, I mean a whale and it is slower than the slowest dog on the track. Opp's I was wrong again a turtle is faster..
Takes ages and ages to process data which should take seconds. I suppose business like paying people to sit back in the chair, waiting for their data to be processed.
In the mean time buy an Iphone you need it for the wait... -
