"Microsoft Active Sync"

Pros
For older operating systems, active sync is required to sych various devices with you computer. Once installed and it recognizes a new device, it could not be simpler to do. I needed it for my Samsung Jack (i637) and it synced flawlessly and easily.
Cons
None as its a very effective sync application
Summary
Once installed and it recognizes a devise to be synced with you computer, it could not be easier. It asks what you want backed up and sets up a folder and subfolders in my documents and sychs the contents between your device and your computer. It then checks for any changes made and resyncs accordingly every time the device is plugged into your computer.
Forgot to mention that Active sync is for Win Xp and older Microsoft Operating Systems. Windows Mobile Device Center is for Vista and Windows 7 (Updated for these operating systems but otherwise does the same job)

On a simple straight forward level, it works fine.
Cons
The program only works if you only enter data on/from one device.
Summary
BUT; if you try to sync with say, a laptop AND desktop, or similar, you are going to have problems. If you add info to your desktop, and your phone, the program won't let you update and save your latest entries, it will only go computer to mobile device, or the other way. So, if you enter data in the "field" and at the desk, when you "sync", you are going to lose information. Now if you add data to your mobile device, laptop, and desktop, your going to lose the new data on two of these. Also, at times the program has frozen during a sync, and all, ALL the information on the target side is lost! (ie, all the contacts and settings on my phone...) When outlook data was transfered from my desktop to my new HTC touch HD, and then tried to sync to my laptop, all the contacts on my laptop not perfectly identical were doubled. Then when I deleted the ?relationship? with my desktop on my phone, activesync deleted ALL of my contacts, emails, and notes that were ever affiliated with my desktop. User beware!

Pros
This syncing tool is pretty good. It syncs what I check off and is done quickly.
Cons
After a few syncs (both my Vista Home Prem local pc & WinXP sp3, network pc) on either pc, I have to uninstall and reload it. Works well but goes bad quickly. Using ActiveSync for more than a year and its failures are soooo frustrating.
Summary
If you have to use this for your Windows phone OS, you'll have to get used to uninstalling and installing it with frequent regularity.

No - Can't think of anything! Only a mother could like this monster!

The software does not work 50% of the time. The fact that Microsoft has an inbuilt trouble shooter tells you that even Microsoft does not expect it to work most of the time.
It sometimes refuses to sync your device with anything. No reason is given.Summary
Buy the iPhone, Mac OS, Linux, Google Android but not this crap.

It's free. That's about it.
Cons
This software is so bad that a NEW install of WinXP, a NEW install of ActiveSync, and a fresh (aka, hard reset) of my PDA STILL couldn't find each other and sync.
Summary
Some one at Microsoft should lose their job over this - oh, wait, the entire series of ActiveSync programs have been almost equally as bad. Jeez, Microsoft, you made ALL the software involved here, and you STILL can't get it working right. Sigh, I'm just venting here - its not like Microsoft would ever invest the time/money improving this software.

Summary
Once again, the well-off in MS just killed any other talents and themselves came up with a free dangerous software which gives you minimum control over the sync. Just attach someone elses phone to your PC for doing limited sync and you will have headache.
