"I woke up sitting in front of my moniter."

by maidensolo on May 11, 2008

Pros: The Most Boring Thing I've Ever Read. There are 5 good drawings. The rest is cruddy cut and past anime on top of photagraphy clip art.

    Cons: It's Bad,Bad,Bad.

"More like a terrible soap opera"

    by electric_bubblewrap on June 7, 2006

    Pros: nice graphics

Cons: Everything else. This isn't really much of a game. It doesn't even qualify to be an interactive movie because you never do anything. It gives you mountains of overly-dramatic, repetitive dialog to click through and once in a blue moon it'll give you a "What do I do next?" option with 2 choices, followed by hundreds of lines of more cheesy dialog. If you do not like reading lines similar to, "I am alone. Very alone. I am used to this aloneness. I have always been alone" and having to click after each sentence, then don't play this "game".

    "Boring"

    by jam_hassen on February 8, 2006

Pros: It has some nice drawings and nice background music.

Cons: This is NOT a game. You spend about 95% of your time reading a story and are able to contribute very little.

    "Interesting"

    by Pegu96 on November 29, 2005

Pros: It's an interesting idea, though it requires patience. Definitely an advancement of the genre. The artwork and the music are fine. Seems to be a commentary on life in modern Japan.

Cons: The writing is a bit contrived and tedious.

    "Excellent stuff..."

by Lucifiel on February 5, 2008

Pros: To be able to enjoy this "story", you've got to bear in mind this isn't really a game but more of an interactive novel: something like a "Choose your own adventure book". Therefore, those who come in with the expectancy of player freedom will be extremely disappointed. Same for those who dislike reading as this is a novel after all.

There're few games which tackle issues like identity, loss of personality, loneliness, etc. in a modern setting but also positively. Generally, many games which claim to be philosophical are rather suspect as they often revolve around the belief that only gore, brutal murder, rape, etc. will encourage philosophical thinking. And they often sneer at concepts like Metropolitan Blues 'cos they're either too lame or too peaceful due to a lack of blood and dead bodies.

If you dig intelligent characters who feel more like humans than stereotypes and an in-depth philosophical look on life in modern society and want a break from games full of violence and gore, welcome to Metropolitan Blues. Though the beginning of this novel might be too depressing for some, keep going and you will be rewarded.

And if you liked Metropolitan Blues, welcome to the wonderful world of "visual novels". ^_^
