"Yes, does what it's supposed to do"
Version: Mencoder OSX 0.7.7
Pros
Works fine if you know how. It is delivered in a .sit file, not a .sil file. You use Stuffit Expander to open it on a Mac.
Cons
No manual! At least they could explain that if you're trying to use this to support ffmpegX on OSX that you need to use ffmpegXbinaries20060307.zip, UNZIPPED, and that the same zipfile serves to support both the Mencoder and mPlayer requirements .
Summary
Does the job.

"Does what it is supposed to do"
Version: Mencoder OSX 0.7.7
Pros
It does what it is supposed to do
Cons
Comes packaged in .sit-file, which apparently confuses some people...
Summary
Having used mencoder on FreeBSD for a long time, this works as expected and even comes with a GUI and at the same time retains the CLI option.

"Its not a .dmg file, its a sil. It won't work on a Mac"
Version: Mencoder OSX 0.7.7
Pros
It sounded good from the description.
Cons
It does not work on a Mac, if it did I'm sure it would be a good application to download.
Summary
It doesn't work on Mac, why is it under Mac downloads I'll never know. If it did work on a Mac, by its description it seems to be a well organized application, or should I say program.

"Too many problems"
Version: Mencoder OSX 0.7.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Seems to lack the stability and superior quality of MPlayer. My Audio disjoints from the video on certain DVD rips, despite the settings. Still, it gets the job done a portion of the time. Thanks for all the work you've done. -
"Nice try, but"

totally useless.
Reading /Users/*****/.mplayer/codecs.conf: can't open '/Users/*****/.mplayer/codecs.conf': No such file or directory
Reading /usr/local/etc/mplayer/codecs.conf: this codecs.conf is too old, incompatible with this mplayer release! at line 6
Using built-in default codecs.conf
File not found: 'frameno.avi'
Failed to open frameno.avi

No audio encoder (-oac) selected. Select one or use -nosound. Use -oac help!

"Audio Encoder problems"
Version: Mencoder OSX 0.7.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Mencoder does a great job when it does work but I often get an error message that says "No audio encoder (-oac) selected. Select one or use -nosound. Use -oac help!" even though I have MP3 selected. I still get the message if I try nosound. I ususally just fiddle with the program til it works. I give a big extra star to this program because it's the only one I have found so far that can convert my EyeTV recorded movies into something smaller while still keeping the sound. =) -
"Decent"
Version: Mencoder OSX 0.7.7
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Interface is yucky. Output quality is good (tried divx4 with mp3 audio on the flick "L.A. Confidential".
I'd like to see DivX5 as an option as well as Ogg audio...
