"Really bad. Crashes all the time"

July 18, 2012  |  By Samwardill

 |  Version: MediaMan 3.10.1109

Pros

Could be good if developer took the trouble to fix the bugs

Cons

Software kept crashing (after uploading each two or three books). I contacted the developer and his only advice was to use different anti-virus. I did try a different anti-virus on a different pc and had the same issue. I asked for my money back. The developer declined do I got my money back via my credit card issuer (as the software was not fit for purpose).

Summary

Waste of time

"Exactly what I have been looking for!"

February 04, 2012  |  By kfbeard

 |  Version: MediaMan 3.10.1109

Pros

I have started entering in all the games and media we have that has over taken us. This software has proven to be a godsend. Automatic barcode lookup, importing of basic information, easy to view thumbnails. I run a gaming review website (http://www.countrygamer.com), and was getting overwhelmed with our library of games and what we had. This has helped out a ton keeping tabs of what games we have and don't have.

Cons

I haven't found any yet.

Summary

Completely worth the 39.95, I tested it out for a day and went ahead and purchased this.

Updated on Feb 4, 2012

Also wanted to add that I am running this program on Windows 7 with no problems with installation.

"Waste of money and frustration"

August 28, 2009  |  By Kori300

 |  Version: MediaMan 3.0 build 1034

Pros

Database with which you can keep CDs, books and DVDs in one database, at an ok price.

Cons

Very poor technical support, will not address multiple comments on same issues by users. Upgrade from commercial v.2.7 to v.3.0 was a new program, messed up the database w/o downgrade option. Upgrades are questionable, you do not know what to expect.

Summary

When you buy a program with certain features and a life long warranty of use, you expect to be able to use it. I bought version 2.7. The developer changed the features in version 3 and literally issued a new program. There were multiple complaints by users who upgraded from v. 2.7 to v. 3 about the features of the program, but he insists there is no change. Recently import from amazon was inactivated, he only provides support for version 3 and asks people to upgrade to be able to use the program.
There is no compatibility with earlier versions, once you upgrade you are stuck with whatever you get or you lose completely your database. Feedback from the users is completely ignored.
Aside from the bad attitude, this is a complete waste of your money. You are much better off with software from collectorz.com or bolidesoft.com. It is a little more expensive, but you are not in danger of wasting your time with a questionable program.

"One Star From Perfect"

March 04, 2009  |  By BC6913

 |  Version: MediaMan 3.0 build 1025

Pros

Nice interface, Easy to use. Being updated.

Cons

No option to change cover art. Amazon is not perfect.

Summary

I've tried Libra and MediaMan. Libra has all the functionality of MediaMan; but has no option for separating media by format (i.e. Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, DVD, Blu-ray, Laser Disc, etc.) Plus updates are put on hold (still in beta, 0.9.2 maybe forever) while the programmers? work on other projects. I guess what do you expect for free. MediaMan has everything; great interface, continued updates(3.0); but no option to change cover art. Let?s face it the Amazon databases do not have all the cover art. You can however find it through a Google image search or scan the original with a scanner or a web cam. A simple click and replace option like on Libra would be nice. Between the two I believe MediaMan is better because it?s being updated. A reasonable price for a good product.

One Star From Perfect 2.0. I give a 5 star rating now that I've found the change cover art feature. I just wish I could import my Libra database instead or reentering all the data.

"top banana"

September 23, 2007  |  By zippy05

 |  Version: MediaMan 2.70

Pros

Spent the best part of 3 weeks searching for easy to use home library software, this ticks all the boxes. Start it up, F8, type (or scan the barcode if you're a lazy b*gger), search, enter, enter, job done. I also like the ability to play with the print settings, so you jazz up a hard copy of your collection.

"Very good catalog software, just still a bit too costly for me."

August 04, 2007  |  By frogtvjr

 |  Version: MediaMan 2.66.3

Pros

This is very good software. It is very useful with a wide variety of indexing and searching abilities. It is very easy to backup the database so you don?t have to worry about losing it. The interface and automatic data retrieval from Amazon.com is so easy to use; it really does outclass the others that are out there. I found the ability to export the database to my palm very useful. It is capable of maintaining multiple databases, and has multiple fields for your own use. The barcode scanning ability is very impressive, and makes adding to your collection very easy.

Cons

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is the cost. For a $50.00 piece of software, I would like to see a larger improvement over the free software version. I would like to see 2 major improvements before I purchase this software. First, I would like to see an option to import data from IMDb. Second, I would like to see the addition of computer and or gaming hardware catalog templates and database. Until then, I will continue to use the last free version v2.2..

"Great Software...why the new charge?"

November 19, 2005  |  By Mrsone

 |  Version: MediaMan 2.30.1

Pros

I love the ease that this software provides in terms of adding media to the collection. It is as simple as entering a barcode (if you have it), or a keyword. It uses Amazon.com to search, so you are likely to get what you are looking for. You can even get the appropriate covers for DVDs, VHS tapes, Video Games, CD's and more. It is very user friendly in form and function. You can display your collection as a standard list, or a virtual shelf. You can export your file information, too. This is great inventory software.

Cons

My minor con is that there is no way to enter in information for items like video game console hardware, or computer hardware, and the like. So you can enter in your video games, but you can't enter in the console you use to play them. My major problem with this software, and why it has gotten only three stars from me despite being excellent, is that it was previously FREE. Now they are only giving a thirty day trial, and asking close to $40 for it. I think that is unfair. If it was meant to be sold for so much money, then it should have been so from the beginning. I do not intend to pay for the new release.
