"Terrible. It almost destroying my computer."

    June 6, 2009  |   By Ran_TH

    Version: MediaCoder 0.6.2.4242 Dev.

    Pros

I don't see any positives from this software.

    Cons

This software is buggy! Yesterday I downloaded this software from their site and trying it....then BOOM! It crashes my harddisk. I was afraid I lost my data, and need hours to fix it to get normal. However my harddisk is now slower than before.

    Summary

Don't download this program. Waste of your time and bandwidth. It also doesn't include any complete presets so I must set it manually. The interface are confusing, and frustrating because it takes minutes to find only one menu option. I prefer other stable converter since this software is beta.

    Cons

Very difficult to use as there are alot of options infront of you(they are not hidden behind an advanced button).

    Summary

Does what it says but dont be put off by they scary amount of options.

"Excellent converter - but can be difficult to use"

    March 22, 2009  |   By Write-On

    Version: MediaCoder 0.6.2.4242 Dev.

    Pros

    - Very fast - 7 mins to convert a 43 min TV show on an AMD 64 X2
    - Takes advantage of multi-core cpus - dual and quad cores
    - Converts anything to anything
    - Saves settings as presets for different devices
    - Converts multiple videos
    - Combines videos

    Cons

    - Too many options! - you spend a lot of time trying different settings
    - Do not select the settings from scratch - likely won't work unless you know what you are doing

    Summary

I have used a lot of other video converters, but I keep coming back to MediaCoder. The secret to setting it up correctly is to select Extensions from the menu bar, choose the device you want to convert to, then select from the small number of standard settings. Optionally close the Extensions window and make any adjustments that you want. If you don't know the correct settings for your device, you can use the video converter that came with the device, convert one video, and open it with MediaCoder to display its settings.

I have successfully converted videos for 3 different very picky mp3 video players, and converted DVD movies into high quality 1 GB avi files. It will also allow you to insert the movie subtitles.

"Best suited as an audio converter only..."

    February 19, 2009  |   By hujan86

    Version: MediaCoder 0.6.2.4242 Dev.

    Pros

    Audio conversion worked well.

    Cons

Video conversion does't work at all; Bland & untuitive GUI.

    Summary

No matter what format/quality settings I choose, video consersion simply doesn't work. All videos ended up corrupt. Interface is not easy either as I tried hard to find the settings I needed to do conversion. Its saving grace is the flawless audio conversion.

"Not user friendly, need step by step instr for Noob"

    December 22, 2008  |   By sillydaddy

    Version: MediaCoder 0.6 alpha

    Pros

    Not a Thing

    Cons

I have used open source products before and like most of them. Also have a Nokia Internet tablet that runs Linux, however this program doesn't explain how to copy dvd's to hard drive. All I get is error codes.

    Summary

A help manual would be nice. Also a step by step Noob file would be nice as well.

    "Great for the iPhone"

    December 4, 2008  |   By Brooklyn Steve

    Version: MediaCoder 0.6.1.40112

    Pros

Easy to use and converts most formats for use with an iphone or ipod without having to do any setup

    Cons

Like most programs of this type it does take some time to convert files into other formats

    Summary

I downloaded the iphone/ipod specific program from the company's website as I need to convert some video so that I could watch on my iphone. This does a great job and the video looks great on the iphone.

    "Total Junk"

    December 2, 2008  |   By penuke

    Version: MediaCoder 0.6.1.40112

    Pros

None. I can't see any reason to use this.

    Cons

I tried outputing to several formats and none would play. There was no compression or file size increased. I can't understand why anyone would want this junk

    Summary

The interface has a lot of options, but none that I tried work. If someone would post something that would work that would be nice, but I haven't seen anything. I think that the positive reviews are nothing but self created spam.

    "Better than sex"

    November 18, 2008  |   By rj.amdphreak

    Version: MediaCoder 0.6.1.40112

    Pros

It converts from and to more formats than 90% of the commercial costly programs available. And it doesn't come in a box!

    Cons

You will need a wide screen to make it easier to use. You need to know a slight bit about encoding options, because some of the defaults aren't optimized...of course I have a taste for high quality above what is popular.

    Summary

Enjoy the luv of FREE software that sticks a boot up costly software's ass.

    "Total crap!"

    June 3, 2008  |   By bbcgrrrl

    Version: MediaCoder 0.6.1.40112

    Pros

Ummmm.... if only it would work.......

    Cons

It errored out repeatedly after only a few seconds! (ffmpeg.exe error). Tried uninstalling and reinstalling from both cnet and the home site for the application. Restarted EVERY time.... with the same crap result. Very frustrating! Usually sourceforge is MUCH better than this!
