"Wait until the publisher fixes the malware issues."
Version: Media Player Classic 6.4.9
Pros
Easy to use. Minimal but highly functional user inteface.
Cons
The application's installer and the application both run afoul of Windows Defender, which considers them to be malware.
Summary
The editor's note that accompanies this program's description states: "Some anti-virus software flag this product as a potential threat. We have re-tested it and based on our process believe it's clean." That may well be the case. But, I am uncomfortable taking anyone's word for a program's "cleanliness" when my anti-malware program flags it. I'm sure the CNET editors are well-intentioned. But, they're not omniscient. When your anti-malware program claims there is a problem, it's just prudent practice to take that claim very seriously (I know how hard it is to disinfect a computer infected with malware).
That said, I've been downloading stuff from this site for as long as I can remember (even before CNET acquired it) and I've never been "burned" by a program I obtained here. So, I decided to give Media Player Classic a try.
Sure enough, Windows Defender definitely does not like either the installer or (at runtime) the program itself. It warned me during install, so I told it to ignore the "high" alerts. But, then, it started warning me about the program at runtime when I was about to use Firefox to access my credit card account online. At that point, I decided to remove Media Player Classic from my computer.
In my opinion, this program should be taken down until the publisher fixes the (presumably incorrect) malware issues. I suggest anyone thinking of downloading Media Player Classic wait until this problem has been fixed by the publisher.
This is too bad. I've used previous versions of this program with no problems. It's an excellent audio/video player. -
"Number one media player by far"
Version: Media Player Classic 6.4.9
Pros
This little player outpaces Quicktime and Windows Media Player by a long shot and it plays DVDs flawlessly.
Cons
None what so ever!!!!
Summary
Does not crash like quicktime and is not a memory hog like Windows Media Player.
Plays just about all of the video formats i use so this is a God send. Gates and Jobs need to start taking notes. The days of the over bloated video players are numbered. This lil program does it right!!!!! -

"It Works! Problem-free, fast, easy!"
Version: Media Player Classic 6.4.9
Pros
Ease of use. Easy installation.
Cons
No cons! None whatsoever.
Summary
I have used Media Player Classic in two different computer systems and it's hands down the best media player around.
Today, I was trying to play some DVDs on a fairly new computer: Windows Media Player didn't work and prompted me to change my monitor settings etc... I tried to do that just for the shake of experimenting and nothing worked.
Then it was RealPlayer time: I could play the DVD with one exception: the video part! I could only hear the audio...!
Then I tried DivX and WinAmp: Oh! These two don't even claim to be playing a DVD. Great!
I suddenly remember of this little program. I google it, I come to Cnet.com, I download and install it and 50 seconds later I'm watching my damn DVD! That's the way to do it b----es! -
"Simple, low overhead, just works"
Version: Media Player Classic 6.4.9
Pros
With k-lite, plays pretty much everything. I was getting lag on audio tracks in WMP11, solved with Classic. Much less of a core hog than WMP11. If all you want to do is play your videos, this works.
Cons
No bells and whistles. No fancy interface. If you are really into videos, there are better choices. Best if you just wanna watch.
Summary
Works with every type of video I want to watch (after loading k-lite codec pack). Simple interface, doesn't bog down slower hardware, unlike Windows Media Player. Before I downloaded this, I kept getting video files I couldn't open with my suite of WMP11, Quicktime, and Flash. But since loading this, I haven't received any formats I couldn't watch. Recommended!
