Version: McAfee Wireless Home Network Security
"Could not even try it. Useless"
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: First, I could not use Firefox. They only allow I.E. to download. Then I went back with I.E. & found that in order to try the " free " trial I had to subscribe at $9.99/year. I also saw that the $ 9.99 price was after a rebate that expired on April 30th 2006.( Hint to McAfee. We are in May now ) McAfee get your act together.

Version: McAfee Wireless Home Network Security
"Unstable product that I could not get to work at all."
Pros: The promises on the box made me purchase the "wireless home network security suite".
The anti-virus software works very well and I found McAfee's software to be less intrusive and more efficient than Symantec's.
Cons: I couldn't get the wireless protection part of the program to work at all. In fact I had to reset my netgear router from the defaults all over again after installing this software.

Version: McAfee Wireless Home Network Security
"In my experience a miserable product!"
Pros: The central idea of a well protected wireless home network is sound. Plus integrated into a suite for one-stop system security management.
Cons: However, the PROS are irrelevant if the product does not work properly...and many users find that it is difficult and problematic to configure.
- Did not function properly.
- Must be installed on all computers in the netork.
- Provides protection only on home network; mobile computing is not protected by the product.
- User manual does not list the changes that the product makes to your system; to revert will require system restore.
- Poor technical support; on-line chat, tier II e-mail, etc. is highly unlikely to result in a fix (in my case it did not).
- Support requests an endless string of software uninstall and reinstalls, modem resets, router resets, etc. They don't read e-mails carefully and don't really address the core issues.
- In order to get the tech support you really need to make the product work costs $59.95.
I'm not one to bash products. In fact, in my experience McAfee's products have been generally quite solid. I carefully pick products. However, in the case of Wireless Home Network Security I advise potential purchasers to avoid it. It can be a nightmare. Once it locks you out of your internet connection you have no way of contacting McAfee On-Line support. The hassles are tremendous.
