"Just wouldn't even install itself"
Version: McAfee Virtual Technician 5.5
Pros
I am unable to make something up
Cons
I got a message saying McAfee had stopped working properly, and advising me to install MVT. Downloaded it, went to install, and a message appears telling me to try again.
Five times later, same result. AVG, here I come. -
"Overpowering nature, decises the Damage results."
Version: McAfee Virtual Technician 5.5
Pros
At first I thought this would be helpful, But I was so wrong.
Cons
I have removed all McAfee software from my PC to include McAfee Security, and this selection. McAfee software was the cuase of (2) of my PC crashes, deletion of Network driver deletion, and slowing down my browser functions. Repair cost $350
Summary
I have removed all McAfee software and will not purchase any further type, from this manufacture. There is much better software, that uses less of your hard drive, and is easier to use. I found this out after the FACT. Well as They say "Lesson well Learned"

"A useful verification tool for McAfee components"
Version: McAfee Virtual Technician 5.5
Pros
A useful verification tool especially if you've been messing with the registry with any of those self-proclaimed miracle registry cleaners. Or been a touch careless deleting unwanted or unrecognised files. (I've done both of those in my time).
Cons
No cons as far as I can see.
Summary
Virtual Technician checks that all the McAfee files, registry settings and so on are present, not corrupted and up-to-date. It's mainly of use if you suspect that one of the McAfee products or functions has become damaged.
The report it produces lists absolutely everything that has been installed and highlights any problems - registry keys, registry values, processes, services, COM Component files, user files. It's thorough and, if you take the time, quite informative. I did not know until I looked here that one of the registry values is DetectJokes. I think that's not meant itself to be a joke, but ... like I said, informative.
I've never had a problem with it, although if you're running it on XP you will need to be running it in an account with Administrator privileges. And like all of McAfee's products, it's pretty resource-hungry, although given the amount of checking it has to do that's understandable. -
"Virtual Tech stopped working middle of scan"
Version: McAfee Virtual Technician 5.5
Pros
Used Virtual Tech twice, seemed to work. Third time, not go
Cons
McAfee auto scan using default time stopped working 3 weeks ago; set to scan at own times times, has not worked yet. Must initiate scan when I want McaFee to scan system.
Summary
Initiated Virtual scan to locate problem. Virtual scan stopped within few minutes of starting w/ message to reboot, rebooted several times, still not working. So Virtual Tech Scan has not only not found the problem of why McAfee security software is not working when set to the default times or to my own schedule, Virtual Tech istself has stopped. Looking for a different securtity software since I am not a computer geek who can go in and manipulate the software. I just want something that works.
