    "Obstruction at its finest."

    May 21, 2012  |   By ConDsenXieN

    Version: McAfee Internet Security 2012

    Pros

There's nothing to like and no benefits to this "Security Suite".

    Cons

    - Gross mis-management of RAM and resources
    - Constant hang-ups of all programs so that McAfee can "update"
    - Scans take forever and never have any results
    - Can't tell a virus from a can opener
    - Constant false positives

    Summary

Ever wonder what it would feel like to own a computer that a company never allows you to use? Look no further than this joke of an offering from McAfee.

The aggravating, constant threat of an "update" will guarantee your computer to hang in limbo as your programs all go unresponsive while the "security suite" now monopolizes every resource available.

Don't bother trying to install any programs with this installed on your PC, you won't get very far. McAfee will constantly butt in with yet another claim of a virus or a "trojan" and block you from installing it. If you DO go for a workaround of temporarily disabling McAfee, it will just look for what you installed and destroy it anyway.

Do you like using the internet? You'll hate it pretty fast with McAfee's "Site Advisor", where even the tamest websites out there will continually be flagged by McAfee as dangerous, forcing you to click a bypass link each time. If you're lucky enough to use a browser that doesn't force it down your throat, you can disable it, but you're better off spending the 30 or so minutes uninstalling it as McAfee repeatedly begs you to remain on your machine.

This software is an absolute nightmare to navigate, and the interface is as clunky and useless as they come. You'll find many a misclick, and if you're one of the unfortunate few who disabled most of its features, you'll be constantly reminded with the omnipresent "Your computer is not protected!" demagoguery.

In a nutshell, this waste of data on your drive does nothing productive, everything obtrusive, and ensures that your machine is no longer in your hands. This is the information age, and the "Nanny" flavour of AntiVirus programs and scanners should have been phased out long ago.

0.5 stars out of five, and only because I seemingly can't give it a big, fat ZERO.

"More problems than it is worth. No support. Do not buy."

    March 1, 2012  |   By Irish3t

    Version: McAfee Internet Security 2012

    Pros

    Nothing good to be said.

    Cons

The company wants to sell their products as downloads only. More profits that way. Nothing to manufacture. Will never buy again. It will be Norton or someone else. See reasons in Summary.

    Summary

If you purchase a disc as you load the program it will keep trying to download the program from the internet instead of from the disc. If you update from one year to the next it will automatically grab the email address you registered the previous version to, even though you have uninstalled all of the
Mcafee files. You had better hope you have access to that email address because that is the only way you can change it to a new email address. If you can't change that then you have lost all three licenses because it will not let you register the software to a different email address on the second or third computer. Then try to find a phone number where you can actually talk to a person. Very difficult. Don't even try to email these people or send them a message through their contact messages because they will not answer you. I waited three weeks, still no reply. If you finally are able to get their technical support be ready for these people to take control of your computer and start looking everywhere without telling you what they are doing or where they are looking. They were navigating through my computer and when I kept asking them what they were doing they said we are trying to fix your computer. They were difficult to understand. I asked them if they were with McAfee, and they said yes they did service for McAfee. I asked them what their names were. They said Sam Smith. Really?? Once I got them to stop and listen to me I told them that all I needed to do was change the email address the computer was registered to. They asked if I could still access the old email address. I told them no. They said they couldn't help me. So I hung up. I noticed they were still navigating through my computer even after I hung up. So I shut the computer down. I turned it back on and they were still in the computer. So I disconnected by cat 5 cable and then closed the program. I then tried to call another number for help. I was on hold for 20 minutes and when they finally answered I told them the problem and they hung up on me. Now I am worried what they were getting into while they had access to my computer.I am not a paranoid person but I felt they could have handled this a lot better, kept me informed, etc. if they were who they said they were.

I am contacting the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General of my state to report what happened to me. The staff I dealt with was very unprofessional, very hard to understand and no help whatsoever. It is fraudulent to sell a product that does not do as is advertised and this software most definitely does not.
