    "McAfee Doesn't Work Peroid"

    July 30, 2011  |   By agniredux

    Version: McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2011

    Pros

None none none none none none none none. To fill the 10 character minimum.

    Cons

Since I got McAfee my computer keeps filling up with viruses. Then I call McAfee and they charge me a couple of hundred dollars to remove them.

    Summary

So bad as to be non-existent. No company has to provide service to Americans because the Republicans protect bad businesses.

"McAfee AV program that acts as if it's a virus itself!"

    July 25, 2011  |   By ephemeralm

    Version: McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2011

    Pros

None! I have nothing good to say about this!

    Cons

Oh wow - I have nothing good to say about this program.
Slows down my 6GB ram PC immensely when scanning, even browsing the internet is impossible!
Doesn't find significant malware or viruses while other AV programs find tons of them.

    Summary

Allows harmful software and browser add-ons to be installed on the pc while blocks normal, legit software.
Is very slow with scanning! The updates take forever!
It allowed boot.ini to get infected, in the end I had to reinstall the system, because I couldn't launch windows at all. I would not recommend this software to anyone!

    "Worst AV software ive tested"

    June 29, 2011  |   By dwightrk

    Version: McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2011

    Pros

I do not see any merit with McAfee 2011

    Cons

    -Terrible n complicated green GUI
-Hung my new laptop multiple times
-Repeatedly detected false positives while letting off the real virus

    Summary

Purchased a 3 year license of McAfee Total Security 2010 with my new Dell Inspirion last year. Since the software auto updated to new 2011 version, I had terrible problems of hang ups, multiple times with the new laptop prompting manual shutdowns. Beside, too many false positives as "dialers" while letting real viruses freely install on the computer. I had to download Malwarebytes Antimalware to clean up the infections.

I had to uninstall it and purchase Norton Internet Security 2011 license in order to use my laptop.

Everything is so smooth since then since NIS is in comparison a far accomplished AV software than McAfee.

On the other hand, I am un happy with Dell for peddling such a sub standard AV such as McAfee with their laptops.

"Good antivirus with standard premium features."

    May 9, 2011  |   By Spectre722

    Version: McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2011

    Pros

    1. Firewall is efficient with resources and also keeps viruses and spyware out as well as any other antivirus I've used.

    2. Mcafee's database tends to identify new threats within several hours.

    Cons

    1. Some internet providers do offer this antivirus along with their services. Otherwise you will have to buy it yourself.

    2. Does not provide much better protection than some of the free security suites out there.

    Summary

My Mom has had Mcafee on her computer for several years.(She gets it through Cox Cable so she doesn't have to renew subscriptions.) I have not uninstalled it from her computer in favor of other programs because Mcafee appears to be doing its job quite well, especially the new 2011 version.

Mcafee is used to be rather lackluster over the past few years. I haven't been fond of Mcafee in the last 5 years, but in 2011 Mcafee has made some notable improvements to their security suite.

The firewall is efficient in resources and does a good job of keeping spyware out. I have not seen Mcafee "miss" anything but tracking cookies(Not harmful.) after scanning with other software such as ad-aware or malwarebytes.

If you pay for a security suite, you'd expect to have the premium features, and Mcafee does provide you with a wealth of features to help you customize how it runs.

I do not see any reason to pay for this product however unless you really care about getting updates quickly. The main advantage over paid security suites and free ones is that they get updates for new threats faster than the free suites do. Mcafee has historically been one of the first to identify new threats on a consistent basis. I personally would not pay for this product, but I can say that it does do it's job quite well and has made some significant progress in the last few years.
