"learns you bad English"
Version: MaxType Lite Typing Tutor 1.6.22
Pros
It's free!
It prints off a certificate of completion making it useful in a classroom environment.Cons
No spaces on new lines
No double spaces between sentences
If you make an error you keep typing errors until you go back and type the right character.Summary
Three cons I found in doing one of the typing tests. As many have mentioned when it goes to a new line you instinctivly want to seperate the last word and the new word with a space but on a new line a space regesters as a mistype.
There are no double spaces between sentences which is proper Grammar. The upside is that you don't have to use their texts you can supply your own.
When you make a mistake it doesn't just flag the mistake and let you keep going it makes you stop and type the correct character. If say you are typing "assassination" and you miss the fourth "s" in the word your hands are already typing "ination" before you realize that you missed a character and so "ination" all count as mistypes. This goes counter to the program that I learned on 15 years ago and against the usefulness of most spell checkers. -
"Truly Terrible"
Version: MaxType Lite Typing Tutor 1.6.22
Pros
Free, somewhat attractive UI
Cons
Windows 95esque design, looks old, at the end of a line when you want to put a space before the next word, it counts the space as wrong.
Summary
Cheap program not worth the time it takes to install it. It counts a space between words as wrong when typing from the end of a line to the next. I cannot really explain it that well but there are so many programs out there that cost less to nothing that are far, far better.

"Failure to perform"
Version: MaxType Lite Typing Tutor 1.6.22
Pros
The programming includes a layout of the keyboard and appropriate diagram for which fingers and/or hands to use for each keystroke
Cons
When testing speed. The program doesn't use a space, or the enter/return stroke between lines, resulting in errors and slowing the typeing speed.
Summary
The afore mentioned bug is enough to make the whole program worthless. How can anyone learn to type, or adequately test their speed when the program doesn't work within proper typeing techniques?

"Awful"
Version: MaxType Lite Typing Tutor 1.6.22
Pros
You can put in your own text files.
Cons
It doesn't give realistic typing situations. The .txt's it has for you to type, do not have double spaces after periods, and also it won't allow you to space after a word at the end of the line, which you would normally have to type in. So if you try to type as you would in a real life situation, it thinks you are making mistakes.
