• Save As/Open and Toggle feature needed

  Needs the ability to quickly toggle layout changes and save multiple profiles.

  Summary

  You have two options: All or Nothing. I wanted the ability to remap keys for a game that lacked the feature (hate WASD!). Hoped this program could run in the background and allow me to toggle the customized map on demand. You can easily remap but resetting back to default requires you to setup the remap again which for me was 12 keys. Plus changing keys to and fro requires a reboot. Not something I want to do every time I launch the game. Great for folks who want to keep a remapped layout as default. Not great for frequent temporary remaps.

  Some of my shifted keys were wrongly assigned. This software did not show any way to re-map those keys. During downloading AVG virus checker had two issues to deal with.

  I downloaded this program in order to disable the blue "Fn" key on my ASUS laptop keyboard. The key is situated to the right of the left Ctrl key and I keep accidentally triggering it when I mean to press Ctrl instead. Unfortunately, the Fn key is nowhere to be found on the interface for this program, so it was completely useless for me. Given that the program is advertised as "an essential tool for laptop users and other people with keyboards whose keys differ from the standard 101 keyboard layout", this omission is unacceptable.

  Page up and Page down keys are inconveniently located on my Acer Aspire one. This program turned them into left/right keys just like that.

• Simple, Clean, and Too Effective

  Re-Maps keys effectively (Including Alt and Ctrl keys that some programs cannot affect)

  Permanently changes (requires no resident program for example to maintain). While this can be considered low footprint, it also tempts irreversible changes if you lose track of the program.

  Summary

  Seems to do it's job. It was a simple program that did not require an install. It seems to adjust the registry, so you can run the program, remap, then delete MapKeyboard altogether, and your map will stick. Therein lies the danger. Be careful before you re-map keys, though. You might find that you need a key you need someday, but you remapped it with this program and forgot all about it. This program can undo it's changes, but another program may not be able to undo MapKeyboard's changes. I already tried with a hotkey program, and it could not change MapKeyboard's work. I will agree with cnet that it should have a hotkey function. If you could use a hotkey as any key, it could ehnance your abilities. As it stands, you have to actually change one of the keys on your keyboard permanently in order to use it. My problem is I was having trouble with my Left Alt key. I used MapKeyboard to make Caps Lock be Left Alt. MapKeyboard did it perfectly and instantly Capslock was Left Alt -- but I had no capslock. It became instantly frustrating because I realized I actually use Capslock! So I just undid the changes and now I'm using my (still working) Right Alt key. If it supported hotkeys, I could make capslock the alt key and ctrl+capslock be capslock. Then it wouldn't be so bad. Simple and clean, it will re-map your keys without fuss (although it requires a computer restart to do it) . But that's part of the problem. No Fuss permanent changes.

  Requires reboot to activate map, but this probably cannot be avoided.

  This program allowed me to disable a malfunctioning key (Q) and substitute another key (tilde) for it.
