Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is a Free and excellent-superior program when compared to others, imo. I've used it for many years now and found that it outperforms McAfee,Norton & Kaspersky in finding every type of malware on the web today. Also, it's much lighter, and won't bog down your system.
A few years ago, a friend's computer was infected with almost 16,000 viruses/malware. No, that's not a typo! Malwarebytes (a.k.a. MBAM) was the main program I used in disinfecting the system successfully. I use it on a daily basis, and am a proud user of the program.
Those "in the know" realize early that it's a must-have for the security tech or enthusiast's toolbox!
After installation and opening of the program, it offers a trial period to use the Professional version which isn't necessary, but helpful in keeping your computer much more secure on the web. Recommended to the planet!Cons

Summary
Malwarebytes is an easy to use, effective, manual malware removal tool. The lack of resident support leaves you at risk of getting hit now and again, but it also consumes no resources. If you are religious about updating and running the program, your chances of catching and eliminating problem software is good.
I have not purchased their paid versions yet, but am very close to doing so, just to get the realtime protection, and to have automatic scans. (I'm tired of being "religious" on 5 computers.)
If I weren't so cheap, I'd have probably bought this years ago. -

I used this program because it came highly recommended, but it took 4 hours and 29 minutes to do a complete scan my desk top computer with Windows 7 pro and took 1 hour 38 minutes with the lap top with Windows 7 home premium, both are 64 bit systems. The desk top has a terabyte black cavier drive that is 10% full, so I was surprised at how long it took since the desk top is a quad-core processor at 3 Ghz.
With that said, Malwarebytes found 154 Trojans/etc that were slowing dowm the desktop and found 51 on the Lap top. The lap top has been in service only since Dec 2011 or 7 months.
I have yet to scan the netbook, the children use for homework. It has Windows 7 basic. Not sure if it is 64 or 32 bit OS. But the ACER netbook has some quirks in Windows 7 and may not be a fair comparison. -
