• Does NOT bounce unwanted emails

  Lousy interface but even more importantly, this program does not bounce unwanted emails as stated.

  I wanted a program to bounce unwanted emails. To check, I bounced an email to myself and it did not come back. The only program I know that will effectively bounce emails is Mailwasher Pro.

  Pros

  On the couple of email accounts that on on my ISP, bounce works fine because they accept the default port of 25. See the Bottom-line Summary for a problem with SMTP port 587.

  SMTP port 587 was changed to 75, and bounce doesn't work on those accounts.

  Summary

  It would be rated great if the port 587 problem could be fixed. Several reviewers have commented that they couldn't get bounce to work (one even said Spam Bully also failed). I wonder if they aren't having the same problem I found; you can't use SMTP submission port 587. If you try, Mailguard changes it to 75 which isn't accepted by your SMTP mail server. However, most of my email addresses are on a hosting service, not an ISP, and I have to use port 587 for SMTP. You can enter that in the account settings page, but when you check it later you will find that MailGuard has changed it to 75. So the bounce is rejected and you never get any notice of the problem. It sounds like it should be a minor fix, but I am still waiting for a response from their website.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Dec 2, 2008<p/>Since the account settings page show POP and SMTP ports, this would seem to indicate that is what is supported. I doubt if web-based email s supported, but I haven't tried it for that.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Feb 17, 2011<p/>I thought I would give it a try again, but this time I noticed something else. Although the category it is shown in on CNET is "Free" and not "Free to try", when you go to install it, you are told that it is a time-limited evaluation copy. So I didn't bother to finish the install to see if the SMTP port problem was fixed yet.

  Pros

  Bouncing has certainly reduced the # of spam mails I get. Also I like the ability to test download questionable emails. .I't's worked for me...friends ask me about my email address when I click bounce by mistake...

  Cons

  That I have to do it manually. It'd be nice to be able to set up some 'rules.'

  Vista Premium Home OS. YahooPlus mail. <p> <p>Used Yahoo's data for configuring. Dannot connect to the network. <p> <p>Disabled firewall <p> <p>Cannot connect to the network.

  Cons

  It doesn't work on my machine. If it can work, it sure is a hassle. I'd like to know how to make it work. Is there any other program that will bounce mail? <p> <p>Oh yeah. The free version is good for only thirty days.

  It's free is about all that's good.

  Difficult to set up, time consuming, have to run your email through them, doesn't stop much spam, not enough automatic settings to be very useful. I wouldn't waste my time again.

  Free and easy to use. Fairly accurate at identifying spam.

  The main reason I wanted MailGuard was to utilize the bounce feature. It doesn't work. I had two friends send me an email, and selected the bounce option. Neither received the bounced email. One of the two also installed it with the same problem as me. I also tried SpamBully with similar results. MailWasher is the only one that worked for us!

  It automatically selects some emails for deletion but with a high level of false positives. Read my cons...

  Thanks for the free program but I find this program useless and without much instruction. Basically you look through all your email and decide if you want to download each of the emails one by one and then you open your email program and download the ones you want. I might as well download all the emails and delete the spam. This doesn't filter spam out but it does suggest certain messages to delete with a high level of false positives. Worthless! Ella for Spam Control seems to work much better and it's also free.

  Pros

  Captures and displays headers from server before they are downloaded into your pc. Saves time and aggravation caused by time wasted on downloading email you didn't want in the first place - bounce feature stops repeat offenders. Relatively small footprint, easy to configure, unobtrusive, and glitch-free.

  Cons

  Cheesy graphics, but beauty is only skin deep - don't let it's look stop you from giving this one a try.

  when i can it to log on, it does a great and simple job

  it tries to load on startup, even thou i have toggled that option off. when i actually attempt to retrieve my msgs, it takes numerous tries to get thru to the server. if i go to the server directly, i have no problems. kinda defeats the reason for having it. after nummmmmerous tries, i finally get on. tech support offered virtually no help, claimed it was a time out problem, they had not seen it before and nothing more.
