"Great freebie for Apple fans"
Version: Mactracker X 6.0.1
Pros

Cons
Windows version lags behind others, history info needs massive rework (one source not updated in almost a year)
Summary
Whether for the Mac fan or the curious computer buff, Mactracker packs Apple's entire history of Macs into one efficient package. This program lets you view specs on every Mac, peripheral, and personal device Apple has built to date, including the sounds that each one makes (where applicable). You can use it as a notebook of sorts for your Apple swag, tracking serials and warranty dates among other things.
New to v6 is the ability to easily cross-reference your Apple device's warranty with Apple Support, plus updates on the latest Apple gear
The interface is well-organized, so you can search the database by year, by family, or with keywords. Every device gets its fair share of attention to detail.
But as a multiplatform product, you'd expect a developer to keep his versions (Mac, iOS, and Windows) in sync with such a wealth of data. The Windows version fell by the wayside in '08. Hey, some Apple fans use Windows, too,
While Mactracker uses a number of sources for info, the developer must also do a better job of phasing out outdated links. Many references point to apple-history.com, which has missed out on all late 2010 and 2011 data as the webmaster of that site no longer seems committed to his project.
Still, this little-known app packed with 25+ years of Apple's best and worst is well worth its asking price of FREE.
