    "Excellent Interface; Defective Output"

    December 28, 2009  |   By bloobloo-2009

    Version: Macsome Audio Recorder 1.0.5

    Pros

Interface: one tab records; the second tab shows the library of recordings. Clear and intuitive.

    Cons

Can't make it play sound while recording.
    Output file is defective.

    Summary

Try as I might, I couldn't get the software to play the music file while I was recording it. In other words: couldn't monitor what I was actually recording, until the recording was finished.

Furthermore, the output file, as much in mp3 as AAC, came out with random glitches. For those old enough to remember portable CD players: it's like your CD player skipped for a second. You hear the wet electronic click and the music jumps to a different point.

If that were fixed, this would probably be the best music recorder out there. The interface is incredibly user-friendly. So many audio editing programs have messy interfaces, this one is incredibly simple. Every button is located where you'd expect it to be. The settings are clear and straightforward; no need to go looking for preferences buried in the different menus.

So it comes down to this: 5 stars for ease of use.
0 stars for the final output file.
    Average: 3 stars.

"Would like a better trial version before buying!"

    October 27, 2009  |   By redtulips1106

    Version: Macsome Audio Recorder 1.0.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The applications SEEMS nice. The trial version only allows 3 minutes of recording. Which doesn't give me time to evaluate its stability and worth for buying it at $29.95. Even 15 days of trial with a full working version would likely give me a better chance to decide. (After all, I already have QT Pro for the same price.) I am particularly attracted to its ability to record directly to mp3 and to set track info for iTunes to pick up. Thus my consideration despite having ipods that record and QT Pro. Allows me to record tiny files without the extra steps to convert/compress.

I like how I can record from the applications' audio sources. As well as the built-in mic or any other line-in source.

I find the INSPECTOR limited. It would be nice to have some control over the audio recording. Like how sensitive I want to set the mic (without going into the Sound Control Panel.) Or feedback as to whether or not I will distort. It would be equally nice to have some kind of feedback when recording from an application's audio source such as how the recording levels are.

My first impression is a good one. :) Just on the fence about the price with only 3 minutes of testing.
