Pros
Clone your existing drive to a new one. Swap in the new drive, reboot. It's just that easy. Or make a backup image of a drive (or partition) to keep on hand for when a drive fails. (Be sure to MAKE and TEST the Rescue CD when prompted, so you'll know the drivers you need to access your backup media are included on the CD). You can double-click an image file and Reflect will mount it, with a drive letter you assign. Now you can browse the image and find a file that you need to restore. Or you can restore the complete image to a new drive.
Cons
The free version only does full backups. You have to step up to one of the paid versions to do incremental or differential backups. The paid version can also be set to verify the backup file is not corrupt be checking it against the data it just backed up. Paid version also lets you setup automated email notifications to let you know that a)the backup ran and b)whether it passed or failed. You can even have it attach the log file to your email.
The price for the Server version jumped dramatically with the release of V5. It went from somewhere around $60 to $180. But it's still far less expensive than other server backup solutions.Summary
The free version is a great way to see how this app works, with some limitations. The paid versions also work quite well. I've used it to backup a RAID set that was running out of disk space. Backed up, replaced the drives and restored from backup. System was up and running as if nothing had changed, other than now there was plenty of free space on the array. I'm a happy customer!
This is a great product for small businesses that have apps that run on Windows Servers but don't have the financial fortitude of a huge corporation that can afford to spend thousands of dollars on backup software solutions. Macrium Reflect Pro and Server editions have the functionality and options needed for small business backups at the right price.
