How easy can it get?... You drag the file on it, it makes the zip file, and then you send it to those poor slobs in the PC world who can't deal with Mac files at all. Too bad we have to do their work for them. And best of all it's free!

20110920 14:32 central time. I opened the .hqx file which decompressed into a .SIT file which required Stuffit Expander to open. I downloaded MacZip *because* I don't have Stuffit/Stuffit Expander!
Summary
Cannot be used without Stuffit Expander. "Stuffit archives are not supported."
I think I figured it out. The OSes are not listed in the Quick Specs area. As near as I can tell, this for Pre-OSX OS Mac... the ones that ran only on PPC or before. (Moto processors?)

The HQX should expand into something that expands the rest of the way with the right SW that usually existed on those old Macs.
Try iZip, which is free (not a trial). It worked on my Intel Core 2 Duo with OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

My friends keep switching to Macintosh and ask me about WinZip, WinRar. Obviously they replace "Win" by "Mac" and end up with 2 non-working products. My advise to them and to all of you: use ZIPEG. It is WinZip/WinRar for Mac.

I sort of agree with bmiller2456`s review. Mac OSX does create zips. But when you expand it by double clicking on it it gets completely unpacked - which is not always what I want. Sometimes I just need 1 picture out of thousand - I will know it when I see it. There is newer free software called Zipeg that does exactly this. Funny it does not even attempt to create ZIPs leaving this job to OS tools.
Zipeg is like WinZip and WinRar but for both Macintosh and Windows. I like it better than StuffIt or MacZip.

I won't install programs that require Mac Classic. Can't you modify / upgrade it to work with Mac 10?
