January 21, 2007  |  By justpwecious

Pros

It's easy to use, has several levels of difficulty, and is so much fun to play! I can't say enough good things about it, except that I am buying it! That says it all!!!

"Another SuDoKu?"

August 29, 2006  |  By computergeektechsupport

 |  Version: MacSudoku 3.0.1

Pros

It's SuDoKu.

Cons

Why would we need a whole program dedicated to this, when a widget has been around for a while? It's about time people just let the whole SuDoKu following fall where it belongs - into your pocket : carry it around, but keep it hidden - it's another Tetris.

"Best Sudoku program for the Mac!"

December 28, 2005  |  By scotty321

 |  Version: MacSudoku 2.2.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've tested every Sudoku program (and widget) available for the Mac as of today, and so far, this is the #1 best Sudoku program that I've found! It has got ALMOST EVERYTHING that a beginner or an expert Sudoku player would want. There's just a few things it's lacking, but hopefully those will come in the next version.

Here are all the POSITIVES of this program:
1. Full 100% control of the game board via the keyboard - no mouse necessary!
2. A built-in timer that you can pause when you walk away from your game... or set it to automatically pause when you hide the game.
3. The ability to show or hide errors.
4. The ability to resize the game board to ANY SIZE you want on your screen.
5. The ability to choose between auto pencil marks or manual pencil marks.
6. Built-in statistics of your puzzle solving abilities.
7. Different levels of game play, from "easy" to "fiendish".
8. The ability to enter in your own Sudoku puzzle, like one you might have seen in the newspaper.
9. The ability to "cut/paste" a Sudoku puzzle in standard Sudoku text form.

Here are the FEW NEGATIVES of this program:
1. NO HINTS! There is no way to get a hint in this program -- no way to get an idea of which square or box you should be looking at next. Although once you get to be an expert player, hints are no longer necessary -- but it sure would be nice for beginning & intermediate players.
2. The "fiendish" level of puzzles can NOT be solved by logic alone, which I do not consider "authentic Sudoku puzzles". The "fiendish" level of puzzles require guesswork, trial-and-error, or have multiple answers. All the other levels can be solved with logic alone.

Great Sudoku game!! This is about as great as it gets!!

"Best Sudoku app for solving yourself"

November 09, 2005  |  By ostman_dotmac

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
There are a number of Sudoku apps for Mac, each with its own pros and cons. For solving puzzles yourself, rather than having the computer do it for you, this is my choice as the best.

The program has a very workable method for marking in possible choices, and has been very stable for me.

"Macsudoku is mature now!"

I already tried the Beta-version and this definitive release is very stable. A big improvement is the adding of more levels of difficulty. I don't regret buying this nice, addictive puzzle game!

"User interface suggestions"

July 02, 2005  |  By DrScott

 |  Version: MacSudoku 1.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
MacSudoku is a good program that has continuously improved. I'm about to register it. However, I'd like to see minor improvements in the user interface: (1) For example, it is to easy to misclick the location in the squares for adding "notes" about potential numbers, and have the entire square receive the keyboard focus. Typing a number then erases one's notes. (2) I'd also like more color contrast between the starting numbers and the numbers I add. Better yet, user preferences for colors?

"This is good"

June 30, 2005  |  By mjb.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I wrote a feedback on this game on the early version which had a tendency to crash repeatedly. The developer obviously picked up on this problem and got rid of it. The result is a game that plays really well. It is a simple interface and exactly the way that you play with pen and paper. My only criticism is that it would be good to let you choose your level. It is satisfying to do the simpler Sudokus but better when you can finish at a higher level. I bought it and it is worth every bit of the small asking price.

"Please give the author a break"

June 12, 2005  |  By Eryx59

 |  Version: MacSudoku 1.1.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I posted an early comment about the lack of a working save function and the tendency of the program to crash unexpectedly, and the author was very responsive (fixing these problems in about a day). It's true that the save function isn't all that it might (later) be, and there may be some other issues (I brought up the issue of the puzzles being too easy to solve). As I wrote before, I just heard about the very existence of this kind of puzzle in the last month, and I can beat MacSudoku's puzzles every time (and I still have 10 days left on my free trial). That fact is the ONLY reason why I have yet to pay for the program (I don't need to save puzzles in progress anymore, as I can beat them in about 10 minutes now).

I know that there are harder Su Doku puzzles out there, and features such as the ability to generate/type in/search for/import them would be a killer reminder of how cool Macs are to use for anything. In the meantime, I remain impressed with this author's attention to the Mac tradition of an intuitive GUI, and his perseverance in delivering a usable gateway into the next new major mental addiction. I may rescind this testimonial later if i subsequently lose my job, my house, my wife, etc. to this addiction.

"Stopped crashing"

June 12, 2005  |  By David Steward

 |  Version: MacSudoku 1.1.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Version 1.1.1 seems to have stopped crashing.

After completing a game you have no time to study it before a non-movable window appears asking for the next game.

Saving and re-loading with a wrong entry seems to mess up the stored solution and the subsequent Show Error.

A choice of levels would also improve the program.
