    "Thanks for a great application!"

    May 25, 2009  |   By peterjames72

    Version: MacFamilyTree 5.5.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using MacFamilyTree for 3 years now and it is simply the best genealogy application for the mac. It offers many advanced features, a build-in web site creation tool as well as complete multimedia support. I never regretted spending the money.

    "Frequent updates are great"

    March 18, 2009  |   By 3DDreamer

    Version: MacFamilyTree 5.4.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
There are genealogy apps which do not see any updates for months - and MacFamilyTree. Once you send a bug report to the developers, a few days later an update appears on versiontracker.

Each version brings a lot of new features and options. As my user name clearly states I love 3D; and the virtual tree of MacFamilyTree displays my ancestors in a very cute way. Moving forwards and backwards in time really is fun.

If you read this, dear developer, please implement (and I'll give you 5 stars):

    - search for places
    - improved printing functionality

    "Great app!"

    Version: MacFamilyTree 5.4.2

    Summary

During the last years I´ve tried several genealogy programs, both for MAC and PC (hate to admit that :-) ). The winner is without a shade of doubt, MacFamilyTree. It has every function one needs and it´s so intuitive you never has to use the manual and even if I consider it a bonus, the graphic is fantastic.
I understand that someone is bothered about all the updates. Are you out of your mind? Would you rather struggle with bugs? The program is moving forward which is a benefit to us all. And I´ve never paid for an update.
MFT is highly recommended. (And to all scandinavians: There´s a Swedish version available)

    "Shareware?"

Some shareware - you are so limited in anything you can do prior to paying (how is this shareware and not simply purchasing software?) it is useless.

    "Second Best for Mac"

    June 18, 2007  |   By alexrosen26

    Version: MacFamilyTree 4.4.7

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I used MacFamily Tree for about six months before switching to Reunion, a far superior program to this one. MacFamily Tree is ugly - the charts look awful and the data entry is annoying. I recommend Reunion for Mac. I have yet to come across anything out there that comes even remotely close to as good.

    "Concur"

    May 23, 2007  |   By mikasch

    Version: MacFamilyTree 4.4.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been using MacFamilyTree for a good 3 years but have often found it lacking in the way it presents information on the screen.

I tried iFamily, as suggested by the previous post - it feels more 'grown up' and presents information in a more logical and clear way. It's also intuitive and easy to use. Pity in a way, because I really gave MFT a good go for a long time and it is ok but has become limited for the amount of data I have (7 generations worth!)

    Cheers.

    "Great, except HTML output"

    November 11, 2006  |   By chsj23

    Version: MacFamilyTree 4.3.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am very impressed with the program's layout, functionality, great graphics, many options, ease of use, etc. I was very impressed. (I was using it in demo mode, so I could not try saving.)

As I entered data, there was one error that I repeatedly made. Perhaps I just have trouble by overlooking it or perhaps this one function should be more obvious when creating new children: gender. It defaults to Male and I kept forgetting to change the women to female.

There did seem to be one bug with dates. If I entered someone's birthdate, it would sometimes later have a warning for that person that they had exceeded the limit of 120 year lifespan. One example was "May 17, 1926", but if I entered "5/17/1926" it would not show the warning. It was just a warning, it didn't interfere with operation of the program.

The reason I chose not to buy the product was the HTML output. I was hoping to use this as part of a family web site. However, I was hoping the HTML output with have more features (charts, etc) and a friendly interface for all family members to use.

    "No Major Problems Now"

    July 17, 2006  |   By mvauthier

    Version: MacFamilyTree 4.3.0

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Although I had a few problems with record duplication when I initially began using MacFamily Tree, after the first update there after I have had no problems with the application.

As with all applications there are things I would like to be changed or added but I am happy with the product. The recent changes for the Family Views are great, it would be neat if the interface we have to show those views were available on the web for the viewers of my published tree.

No Major Problems. Keep those updates coming.

    Best Regards
    Mike

"User interface still gets zero points"

    March 25, 2006  |   By jhc

    Version: MacFamilyTree 4.2.7

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have been a registered user of MacFamilyTree for some time and despite several updates, fundamental problems still exist. The user interface STILL has to be one of the most non-intuitive I have ever experienced. Simple tasks like editing the details of an individual are overly complicated, resulting in a real feeling of pot luck as to whether the desired results will be achieved.

The writers of this software have ignored the basic principals of creating a good application - i.e. you CAN'T simply take something that works fine on paper and transfer it to a computer. This is why the user interface is so poor. There's simply no excuse for this.
