"A \"must buy\" ? Maybe."
Version: Mac DVDRipper Pro 1.5
Summary

At first, I thought that last review might've been written by the developer. I was getting ready to write a critical review but things have changed.
OK Mac DVDRipper Pro is not expensive. But no software developer should use the appellation "pro" for a tiny utility that lacks features, a proper interface, good prefs facilities and no support documentation. However, this little tool did extract a file from a DVD when I asked it and that is a major plus!
But I would surely have liked more options for a start, in setting it up to do its thing. Handbrake is a useless piece of sh*t if what you want to do is duplicate a protected DVD but at least it offers a worthwhile collection of controls for the user to set.
The interface is minimalist at best. True, a pretty interface is not necessary before a tool can do its job but hey, what does "Pro" really mean? Not "ugly and un-mac-like" that's for sure.
There's not even a "Help" item in the menu bar. And certainly no documentation.
If, at the end of the day, a utility does the job it claims to do, I suppose that's progress but I think users are entitled to more.
OK at the end of the day, It does work. It ripped a DVD for me effortlessly, producing a VIDEO_TS folder that I could use in Toast to burn a copy disc. So, to that extent, it does its job. In my search for a proper, pro too, I went to <http://www.mp4converter.net/dvd-ripper-mac.html> and downloaded a trial copy of DVD Ripper. It certainly looks more professional. It's not mentioned in VersionTracker so I'm not able to assess any reviews. But look, after ripping, it can save in 81 different formats but...none of them is VIDEO_TS!
MacTheRipper is similar. <http://www.mactheripper.org/> Minimalist, but does the job and version 2.66 is free. I have version 3 beta. I see at <http://www.ripdifferent.com/mtr/> that there is a version 4 available. I just now used version 3 beta to rip a disc, comparing it with Mac DVDRipper Pro. Works as good. no better, no worse.
While I'm at it, I would just like to take this opportunity to vent my anger at <http://www.ripdifferent.com>. Why here? Because sure as hell, no one can make contact with the site owners to lodge a complaint. You must sign up before you can post to or read any forum but they go over the top with their "no robots", "type the word you see" set-up. It's impossible to read the words so I clicked on the audio only to hear something like "doing it like that, the author of the novel was able to..." Would be a joke if it weren't so serious. Top marks to another site I visited where the only thing you had to type was a permanent word appearing as a picture. To put it another way, the word you had to type never changes. Works fine because, if a robot can't read a picture of a word that changes with every visit, it also cannot read a picture of a word that does not change with every visit! Most site owners haven't figured this out. But the morons who run http://www.ripdifferent.com will never hear how stupid their sign-up procedure is because there is no way to tell them! Grrr
And finally, I found this <http://dvdrippermac.bestdvdripper.net/?gclid=CJby-7rhuJ8CFQwpawodhEmJ0w> comparing six different ripper tools.

"A must buy!"
Version: Mac DVDRipper Pro 1.5
Summary

This app is nothing short of amazing, and at an outstanding value too. $10 for this high quality of app is deal not to pass up. True MDRP might not have as nice of interface as Ripit, but MDRP is faster, and more affordable. MDRP let's you save your rips as disc image which bypasses the new security features that a lot of the DVD manufacturers are adding nowadays. Such as DVDs showing with extremely large disc sizes, like 31GB for the new Star Trek DVD (which is impossible for a DVD to hold that much data).
I really don't know why Macworld gave their Eddy Award to Ripit over MDRP. -

Simple, few options... but works like a dream. I would love to have a "remove extras" -
"Worth every penny!"
Version: Mac DVDRipper Pro 1.4.3
Summary

I have tried apps both freeware & payware for ripping DVD's.
This is the only one that copes elegantly with BAD SECTORS either through SCRATCHES or COPY PROTECTION.
It it copes with (& optionally removes) Macrovision without any other third party junk needed to be sourced or installed.
I threw a scratched Resident Evil DVD at it & it ripped it fine. The ONLY Mac app I can find to do so.
Highly recommended! -
"So far, so good. But how to burn DVDs?"
Version: Mac DVDRipper Pro 1.3.1
Pros
Easy to use, fool proof,
Cons
UI could be a little more exciting. The program acts smooth, cool, Mac-like, but it doesn't wow me. Small critique, I know - it's a good program!
Summary
I've used the program now 3 times (two rips left) and the files have run perfectly. Just like a virtual DVD on the desktop. But I'd like to be able to burn back onto dual layer and not sure how. This is probably a separate program/utility(?)
