You can automatically import any type of file and open it with your associated file viewer. Also provide are an integrated Shoutcast Stream Capture, a CD ripper, a BPM counter, and an MP3 encoder/decoder. MP3 Observer Pro is the pay version of MP3 Observer Home and has a few more features.

A tool for organizing and managing MP3 files, MP3 Observer has many useful components, but the lack of an actual media player undermines its appeal. The program searches the hard drive for MP3 files, and provides tools to change and update ID3 tags. It helps users make playlists that can be saved for later use. It includes a wide variety of tools for capturing and creating music files, including a Shoutcast stream capture feature, a CD ripper, a BPM counter, and an MP3 encoder/decoder. Unfortunately, the program doesn't have its own media player, so these playlists, and the music files themselves, will still have to be imported into another program to be heard. For anyone who's looking for a collection organizer with some extra bells and whistles, this tool may certainly do the trick; but we suspect that most users today will default to a traditional jukebox.

  the player should be better, but tagging and renaming is perfect!

  Version: MP3 Observer Pro 3.0

  "failed to run after initial setup"

  Summary: This program installed, looked at my entire catalog of MP3s, and then refused to run. I tried it out in two separate installations with the same result.
