Version: Look@LAN Network Monitor 2.5
"Great for knowing who is online on your LAN"
Pros: If you find high-bandwidth network activities slow down your LAN and other users moan, your probably likely to use these features less. Look@LAN shows which nodes are online and offline which I found useful for knowing when I could run torrents.
This software is also useful for debugging network problems - it allows you to run a query on any node that is online to discover the services (ports) that are running and open.
Cons: Just a few minor glitches:
- The HostName column seems to get a little confused sometimes and randomly gets names from the NetBIOS column in the wrong order. This is nothing drastic, just go by the NetBIOS column to be sure of the HostName.
- the sound alert for new hosts/online/offline gets annoying after a while, there doesnt seem to be a way of turning it off (no, unselecting 'sounds' doesnt work
- stability: its crashed a few times i'd say 1 every 50 runs

"Carlo Medas's products contain trojans"
Summary: If you have installed this or Look@File, ctrl-alt-del, and end Microsoftx, jutsu, and rapid. Go to your windows\system32 directory and delete: Microsoftx.exe jutsu.exe rapid.exe Thank you Carlo Medas for making your products "free".... read more

"Good at discovery, not great to monitor activity"
Pros: It is fast and really gives a good look at the whole network
Cons: It does not tell you "live" information about network activity, you have to hit refresh. I am looking to see who at work is actively moving files to and from my media hard drive. This does not work for that.

Pros: Fast LAN/port scanning, a great tool for any admin. Notifications of when devices go offline or online is very useful, especially when troubleshooting or monitoring a network. Four stars if it didn't crash.
Cons: I can't find a build that doesn't crash on a regular basis. I've tested on many different computers, and the program crashes on all of them. I continue to use it, though, as it's a great tool.
